SUMMARY
The CNC Programmer Machinist programs various commercial factory machines that turn raw material into useable components. They work from drawings sketches work orders charts and verbal instructions to program set up and operate various machine tools work cells and/or CNC work centers to fabricate a wide array of component parts of above average to complex variety. Performs advance setup operations adjusts and validates programming and operates numerically controlled machine tools to perform a complex series of progressive machining operations. This position requires a broad knowledge of machining techniques and programming.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Works from drawings samples work orders and instructions to install and adjust various types of tooling and fixtures in the work centers.
Calculates and writes programs for CNC work centers to fabricate component parts to stated engineering specifications.
Works independently to troubleshoot and resolve problems concerning machining operations tools materials and CNC programs.
Performs secondary machining operations on component parts as required.
Performs detailed analysis of the component parts configuration/dimensions to determine the most efficient machining operations required for production.
Loads computer programs into CNC work centers appropriately adjusts machine speeds/feeds modifies programs and documents changes as required.
Processes first piece through initial run analyzing and making critical adjustments to tooling programs and process parameters of the work center.
Operates and monitors work centers to perform progressive turning boring drilling tapping and reaming operations.
Fabricates simple holding fixtures as required for machining.
Inspects parts for stated dimensions and surface imperfections to prepare for production.
Works with engineering and supervisory personnel to troubleshoot and resolve design equipment and operating difficulties.
Performs preventative maintenance duties as scheduled by Maintenance
Assists training lower level machinists answering work questions resolving operating difficulties and reviewing completed work assignments.
Critical Competencies
Broad knowledge of machining techniques to perform advanced setup operations.
Works independently to troubleshoot and resolve problems concerning machining operations tools and CNC programs.
Proficient in the use of cutting tools and measuring equipment
Capable of reading and understanding drawings
Demonstrated experience of training lower level machinists.
Has received formal training in the areas of:
CNC Programming
Capable of programming complex controls on various types of CNC equipment. Requires thorough understanding of different types of controls such as: Mazatrol Fanuc etc.
Requires competent programming skill with modeling software such as: Esprit MaterCam Cad Cam Smart Cam.
Capable of programming and operating Multiple Axis / Spindle Machines
Awareness of new CNC tooling and technology features
Machining
Competent in the design of tool holding requirements for parts.
Requires expertise in the operation of a minimum of three pieces of manual equipment such as: Mills Lathes Grinders Proto Track Mills/Lathes.
Requires expertise in the operation of a minimum of two pieces of CNC equipment such as: CNC Mills CNC Lathes CNC Grinders Wire EDM Machine
Thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). CMM operations knowledge is preferred.
Cutting tool fabrication experience.
Demonstrated experience in leading Process Improvement and Cost Reduction Initiatives.
Education and Experience Requirements
AAS Degree in Machine Technology preferred.
Minimum of seven years of CNC programming experience and/or ten years of manual machining experience required
