Job Description:

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Participant Care and Support:

  • Provide support to participants
  • Be fully versed in current Policies and Procedures which apply in Emergency Transitional and CRF Programs.
  • Be aware of participants and their activities
  • Liaise with Parole Officers and brief Parole Officers when appropriate
  • Assist assigned (CRF Case Worker) with Case Plans
  • Manage client paper files
  • Complete parole client intakes and orientation to centre
  • Carry out casework duties including analysis of data and formulation of treatment plans
  • Conduct individual counselling sessions with clients
  • Prepare termination summaries for each parole client
  • Make checks on out of building parole clients as necessary
  • Present to the Client Review Board at meetings when required a written or oral report on the conduct recovery plan and progress of each assigned parole client
  • Supervise daily activities such as room checks distribution of parolee allowance distributions of equipment etc.
  • Added to a weekly-rotation of on-call after hours support
  • Develops and maintains a strong therapeutic relationship with participants that access Centre of Hope to ensure effective intervention.
  • Utilizes the environment in assessing teaching and supporting staff that provide participants with support such as problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Participates in implementation of case plans in consultation with caseworkers.
  • Monitors the Caseworker participant progress changes and/or regression in the participants status.
  • Encourages participants to develop a community-based support network in conjunction with the Case Management team.
  • Assumes delegated responsibility for the facility when assigned.

2. Health & Safety:

  • Maintains the safety and security needs of the participants through engagement supervision and monitoring.
  • Completes all documentation regarding participant safety incident reports fire safety and other serious incidents.
  • Deals with serious incidents and crisis in a safe and therapeutic manner. Communicate and ensure facility rules while maintaining discipline and safety.

3. Communication and Reporting:

  • Complete statistical recording as required
  • Completes duties reports and logs as per policy.
  • May complete all documentation regarding participant safety incident reports fire safety and other serious incidents.
  • May document daily events progress towards goals and any significant occurrences.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality regarding the participants their issues and their concerns.

4. Team Lead:

  • Provide workflow coordination and direction within the Key Work Model to the case workers.
  • Responsible for the overall daily operation of the Case Workers.
  • Participates as required in the evaluation and goal-setting processes of the organization. This includes providing staff feedback to the Residential Services Supervisor for PEAC process.
  • Assist case workers with decision making regarding appropriate outcomes for the restriction review committee.
  • Train new staff including updating and training existing staff with new or changing procedures.
  • Contribute to consistency of quality of services and risk mitigation.
  • May provide On-call support for staff. Participation in on-call support for Centre of Hope.
  • Meet regularly to complete check ins with the casework team.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Required to work in co-operation with other staff members in job related areas and treat all residents parole officers and members of the public with dignity and confidentiality.

Governance boards and councils: None.
Internal: Residential Services Supervisor (ACSO) clients Residential Case Workers other staff.
External: Community Partners Parole Officers etc.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Residential Services Supervisor (ASCO)
  • No formal managerial responsibility
  • Responsible for his/her own time and effort only. May demonstrate work methods to new employees volunteers and or students

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Responsible for the safekeeping of materials and equipment for own use
  • Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines
  • May be responsible for handing out petty cash to clients

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Working in a Community Residential Facility (CRF) within Winnipeg Centre of Hope.
  • The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding and performing walk abouts
  • The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information
  • Flexibility required to attend work outside of your regularly scheduled shift.
  • Ability to lift to 20 pounds.
  • May involve responding to first aid incidents including overdoses.
  • May involve bending stretching reaching and stair climbing.
  • Minimal opportunities for rest breaks may occur during the shift.
  • May involve sitting standing walking for long periods of time.

Incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Will need to read and assess offenders criminal histories and as a result potential for triggering information
  • Isolation
  • May be subject to verbal abuse discrimination etc.
  • Deal with angry abusive people
  • Noise
  • Work schedule affecting lifestyle
  • The incumbent carries a pager/walkie talkie and will work shifts

  • May be exposed to the risk of physical verbal and mental abuse within workplace (by participants)
  • Potential of exposure to infectious diseases
  • Potential of exposure to toxic chemicals
  • Potential of exposure to bodily fluids (human waste)
  • Potential of sharp and moving objects
  • Potential of pressures of timelines
  • Potential of objects falling off high shelving
  • Potential of slippery or wet surfaces
  • Potential of exposure to odors
  • Potential for Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

Precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal precautions
  • Immunization for Hepatitis B
  • Vaccination against Tuberculosis
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • BA Social Work Diploma or two-year Degree in related social services field
  • Criminal Police Record Check with vulnerable persons check
  • Adult and Child abuse registry check
  • Commissioners Finger Printing CSO screening process
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR (Ministry Unit has a trainer on site to teach new employees)

Note: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • More than 1 year of prior related experience in a residential setting working with vulnerable population.
  • Experience working within the field of Mental Health and Addictions would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office internet and keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Behaviour Based Model would be considered an asset.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $20.32 to $25.40 with a maximum of $30.48.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
