The position of fitness instructor is responsible for providing high quality fitness and recreation opportunities to residents and visitors in a safe friendly and welcoming environment through the provision of professional health club supervision and services.
What youll be doing:
- Ensure customers health and safety is maintained at all times through the highest standard of customer supervision.
- Ensure the fitness area equipment fixtures fittings and amenities within the program area are maintained in a clean safe hygienic and tidy manner.
- Conduct gymnasium/program instruction in an effective efficient and responsive manner with the target being to offer the highest standards of instruction.
- Work within leisure to actively market/promote programs facilities and centre services to members across the Hume community.
- Maintain a high standard of expertise in safety procedure first aid physical health and conditioning by regular re-training.
- Thoroughly assess the physical and health capabilities of gymnasium users and prescribe programs appropriately.
- Follow the member fitness journey process and remain up to date with Hume membership apps.
- Regularly check internal communication platforms and stay up to date with the latest updates across Hume Leisure Centres.
- Actively engage build rapport and recruit members for fitness appointments.
- Participation within special events across leisure as necessary.
- Must be flexible and be able to work within all centre trading hours.
- Work harmoniously with the public while at the same time ensuring that the behaviour of customers within the Centre does not offend other users or cause damage to Council property
The skills and experience youll bring to the role:
- Demonstrated experience in operation of a gymnasium including pre-exercise checks fitness assessment program prescription supervision and equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge and skills to ensure fitness and programs area is a safe environment for patrons and staff.
- Current recreational trends particularly in the fitness area.
- Ability to identify customer needs and expectations decide the appropriate action and respond accordingly.
- Demonstrable ability to supervise the safe operation of a gymnasium.
- Must be flexible and be able to work within all centre trading hours.
- The ability to maintain concentration and alertness during extended periods of duty
- The ability to effectively convey their knowledge of fitness safe practice and education to customers.
- The ability to perform and demonstrate first aid and Cpr appropriately and effectively
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Minimum Certificate III Fitness
- Current Working with Childrens Check (Employee)
- Current fitness registration with Aus Active Physical Activity Australia or equivalent
- First Aid (HLTAID011) Certificate and CPR (HLTAID009) Certificate
- Current drivers license
- Desirable: Certificate IV Fitness or higher.
