Job Description
What will you be doing
As a Maritime Embedded Software Engineer you will join our South-Coast team to support our activities within the Maritime/Defence sector.
Step aboard a cutting-edge maritime defence project with ALTEN Ltd where your expertise in embedded systems will contribute to the next generation of submarine-based intelligent electronics. Youll work on-site alongside leading engineers delivering high-integrity software solutions in one of the most demanding environments. This is an exciting opportunity to combine Embedded C hardware integration and PLC knowledge to deliver impactful innovation below the surface.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain embedded software in C working directly with custom hardware platforms used in marine defence environments.
- Support the design integration and verification of submarine embedded systems with real-time and mission-critical constraints.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to troubleshoot and debug low-level software/hardware interfaces.
- Apply and support PLC-based logic within embedded environments (desirable).
- Ensure system compliance with defence-grade software standards and documentation requirements.
- Participate in lab and field testing to verify embedded performance in harsh environments.
Qualifications :
Essential Skills & Experience
- 5 years of professional experience in Embedded C software development ideally for safety- or mission-critical systems.
- Strong understanding of embedded hardware interfaces and real-time embedded systems.
- Experience with debugging integration and hardware bring-up.
- Familiarity with PLC systems control logic or industrial automation platforms (advantageous).
- Experience working in regulated sectors particularly defence aerospace or maritime.
- Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in Software Engineering Computer Science Electronics or related discipline or equivalent experience from UK military/defence technical roles.
- Must be eligible for or already hold UK SC-Level Security Clearance.
