Job Description
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Buyer to lead procurement efforts for our Steel Products. This critical role will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies managing supplier relationships and ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of steel coil materials. The ideal candidate will have deep industry knowledge strong negotiation skills and a strategic mindset to drive supply chain performance and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
o Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans specific to steel coil commodities.
o Analyze market trends raw material pricing and global supply conditions to optimize sourcing strategies.
o Identify and qualify new suppliers and negotiate long-term agreements.
Supplier Relationship Management
o Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
o Monitor supplier performance metrics (quality delivery cost) and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
o Collaborate with suppliers to ensure compliance with company standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
Cost Management
o Negotiate pricing terms and contracts to achieve cost savings and margin improvement.
o Conduct should-cost analyses and support cost-reduction projects.
o Monitor steel index movements and pricing forecasts to manage volatility.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
o Work closely with Engineering Production Planning Quality and Logistics teams to ensure material availability and alignment with project requirements.
o Support New Product Development (NPD) initiatives with sourcing and procurement strategies.
o Participate in cross-functional meetings to resolve supply-related issues.
Inventory & Risk Management
o Ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained to support production without overstocking.
o Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies for supply disruptions.
o Support implementation of Just-In-Time (JIT) or vendor-managed inventory (VMI) programs where applicable.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Business Administration Engineering or a related field.
Minimum 58 years of experience in procurement or supply chain roles with a strong focus on steel coil or metal commodities.
In-depth understanding of global steel markets mill operations and commodity pricing mechanisms.
Proven track record of contract negotiation and supplier management.
Strong analytical communication and project management skills.
ERP/MRP system experience (e.g. Sage 300 SAP Oracle JD Edwards).
Professional certification (e.g. CPM CPSM CSCP) is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working in manufacturing automotive construction or industrial sectors.
Knowledge of international trade regulations logistics and import/export compliance.
Familiarity with sustainability and ESG initiatives in the supply chain.
