Senior Combustion Engineer Hydrogen-Diesel Systems
Location: California
Onsite Full-Time
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Combustion Engineer to help develop and optimize advanced dual-fuel hydrogen-diesel systems for maritime decarbonization. This role combines mechanical design simulation and machine learning with practical real-world engineering.
Design and implement data acquisition systems and analyze collected engine data
Apply findings to improve combustion models and develop machine learning algorithms
Develop detailed 3D CAD models of hydrogen system components
Run performance simulations using 1D/3D tools such as STAR-CCM GT-SUITE or CONVERGE
Plan and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
Support the integration and deployment of dual-fuel (hydrogen-diesel) retrofit systems for ships
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability in the field
Apply deep knowledge of combustion chemistry emissions and engine performance to guide design
Master s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Strong background in mechanical and electrical systems
Experience with CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks NX)
Proficiency with CFD tools such as STAR-CCM GT-SUITE or CONVERGE
Hands-on engineering mindset with a focus on implementation
Experience developing or applying ML algorithms
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Experience in the maritime or automotive sectors
Familiarity with hydrogen fuel systems and dual-fuel engine technology
Programming skills in Python PyTorch; experience with LabVIEW or MATLAB
Knowledge of ship engineering drawings and regulatory standards (e.g. Lloyds Register DNV)
Strong interest in sustainability and emissions reduction technologies
