Under the 2nd Shift FOM Supervisors general supervision the Maintenance Assistant supports HVAC or Maintenance Mechanics in the preventive maintenance repair and installation of mechanical and non-mechanical equipment. This work is performed using hand and power tools to meet departmental objectives. The role may include filling and transporting liquid nitrogen dewars and assisting with snow and ice removal during inclement weather.
Job Responsibilities:
Inspects and changes filters in air handling units and other HVAC equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance (PM) by adjusting lubricating and cleaning equipment and vehicles under the supervision of the Grounds Shop Lead a Maintenance Mechanic or a Maintenance Supervisor. Notifies the supervisor when PM requirements need to be updated.
Transports and fills liquid nitrogen dewars. Monitors and refills dewars campus-wide as needed. Delivers liquid nitrogen upon request.
Repairs dismantles and assembles equipment according to manufacturers specifications. Performs troubleshooting and repair tasks under supervision.
Assists other maintenance personnel as needed and as assigned.
Performs campus grounds maintenance including emptying exterior trash cans removing snow ice and debris and identifying safety hazards to be reported to the Grounds Shop Lead or Maintenance Supervisors.
Orders job-related materials under the direction of a Maintenance Supervisor Mechanic or Grounds Shop Lead. Maintains lawn care and winter maintenance materials inventory and reports levels to ensure adequate supplies are available.
Performs other related duties as assigned to support departmental goals and objectives.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum Experience:
One year of experience in a related mechanical field is preferred.

The work environment may include exposure to wet or humid conditions mechanical parts fumes or airborne particles extreme temperatures sharp edges and outdoor weather.
May work in mechanical equipment rooms with low clearance and potential trip or slip hazards.
Possible exposure to high places toxic or caustic chemicals electrical hazards and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
Must comply with all applicable federal state and local safety and health regulations.
Must be able to access equipment and storage located at above or below the work surface.

Compensation

This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets experience and training licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
