Yakima Valley College seeks innovative Part-Time Communication Studies Instructors committed to community college students and their success. This position is part-time non-tenure track.
Reporting to the Dean Arts and Sciences the Communication Studies Instructor will be culturally competent with commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations utilize appropriate technology in the classroom and have a record as a successful teacher demonstrating strong promise as a contributing member of the Arts and Sciences Division. We value opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration find ways to utilize cooperative learning and are utilizing various technologies in the classroom and for distance delivery of instruction. All faculty are engaged in the assessment of college goals and purposes.

Essential Tasks

JOB PROFILE:

  • Provide instruction in a variety of communication courses including Public Speaking Fundamentals of Speech Communication Interpersonal Communication and Intercultural Communication.
  • Participation in college-wide registration and advising.
  • Consultation with students outside of class through daily office hours.
  • Preparation of course instruction course and curriculum planning.
  • Participation in departmental and college curriculum planning and assessment.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned Masters degree in Speech Communication Communication or Communication Studies or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A broad range of graduate-level coursework for example: speech communication feature writing mass media journalism interpersonal communication or intercultural communication.
  • College level teaching experience preferably community college.
  • Experience or interest in using a variety of student-centered instructional and assessment techniques (e.g. portfolio collaborative teaching and learning interdisciplinary partnerships computer-assisted instruction instructional technology).
  • Experience or interest in curriculum development assessment and outcomes-based learning.
  • Successful experience advising students developing course materials and schedules.
