The North Carolina Department of Public Safetys HBCU/MSI internship (Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Served Institutions) offers students majoring in criminal justice emergency management psychology sociology social work or other human service degree programs an opportunity to rotate through various careers and operations within the department. Areas of focus include Alcohol Law EnforcementCommunity Corrections Juvenile Justice Community Supervision (Probation & Parole) Emergency Management (Homeland Security) Victims Compensation Services State Capitol Policeand ABC Commission.
The HBCU/MSI Internship Program period is Monday August 25 2025 to Thursday October 30 2025. This position is part time (up to 29 hours per week) and the rate of pay is $15.00 per hour. The work schedule is typically Monday-Thursday.
Interns will be hired through Temporary Solutions which operates as the States temporary employment agency. As a temporary position there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position.Visitfor employment information.The mission of DPS is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through prevention protection and preparation. DPS iscomprisedof approximately 6000 permanent positions andnearly 13000NC National Guard soldiers andairmen.DPS employees help to ensure North Carolina is a safe place to live work and visit through effective law enforcement juvenile justice programs emergency response and recovery and homeland security preparedness.

To qualify for this position applicants mustdemonstrateALL ofthe followingKSAs:
- Must be a currently enrolled student in a HBCU (Historically Black College or University) orMSI (Minority Served Institution) or a recent graduate from an HBCU/MIS. Note:Recent graduates are those who have graduated within the last 6 months.
- Must have completedat least 24 semester hours of college coursework. (Please attach your college transcript.)
- Must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree (or a recent graduate) in one of the following fields: criminal justice law emergency management homeland security social work psychology sociology or human service-related programs.
- Must have a GPA of at least 2.5 (Please upload your unofficial transcript).

Transcripts

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference:
Acurrent member of the NorthCarolinaNational Guard in good standingmust attach a NGB 23A (RPAS).
