Definition of Classification:
The Executive Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement is a visionary leader responsible for developing and implementing strategic inclusive and sustainable engagement programs that foster lifelong relationships and philanthropic support across the institutions diverse alumni parent and constituent communities. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement this individual serves as the institutions chief architect for alumni involvement and annual giving initiatives.
This dynamic leader will shape and advance the Universitys philanthropic culture and constituent engagement strategy including alumni donors retirees parents partners and healthcare alumni (if applicable). They will lead a high-performing team in designing meaningful engagement opportunities fostering alumni loyalty and achieving ambitious annual giving goals. The Executive Director partners across the university including academic leadership student affairs athletics and institutional advancement units to strengthen a sense of belonging and commitment to the institution.
This position represents a unique opportunity to shape the future of alumni engagement and philanthropic support at one of the nations leading institutions. This position requires flexibility to work outside normal business hours including early morning evening and weekend hours as well as the ability to travel as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Strategic Vision & Leadership
Develop and execute a comprehensive and multi-year strategy for annual giving and alumni engagement that aligns with the Universitys mission and institutional goals.
Act as a senior strategist and collaborator working with advancement leadership and institutional partners to strengthen philanthropic support and increase alumni participation.
Serve as a champion for alumni engagement as a University-wide priority building strong relationships with internal stakeholders including faculty staff student affairs and academic leaders.
Monitor trends and best practices in alumni relations philanthropy and higher education advancement ensuring innovation and adaptability.
Annual Giving Leadership
Lead all facets of the annual fund program including direct mail digital campaigns leadership giving phonathons giving days and class-based and affinity fundraising.
Set and achieve ambitious participation and revenue targets leveraging data-driven strategies to assess performance and optimize outreach and messaging.
Partner with major gifts and advancement services teams to build a robust donor pipeline and create personalized solicitation strategies.
Foster a culture of donor stewardship demonstrating impact and encouraging continued investment.
Alumni Engagement Strategy
Design manage and evaluate year-round programming and communications to deepen alumni engagement and enhance institutional loyalty.
Oversee signature engagement initiatives including reunion weekends Homecoming alumni awards regional and virtual events and affinity-based programming.
Strengthen networks of alumni across fields such as business the arts and public servicesupporting professional regional and identity-based communities.
Serve as a key liaison to governing alumni bodies including alumni councils or boards providing strategic direction facilitation and communications support.
Constituent Engagement & Special Populations
In collaboration with partners across medical healthcare or professional schools (if applicable) develop inclusive programming to engage alumni from varied backgrounds including alumni graduate program alumni house staff retirees and partners.
Lead efforts to connect current students with alumni through mentorship programs panels and events that support student success and career development.
Volunteer Leadership & Stewardship
Identify recruit and support a diverse corps of alumni volunteers for advisory representative and philanthropic roles.
Build a culture of volunteerism through training recognition and stewardship supporting alumni in their engagement with the University.
Communications & Marketing
In partnership with marketing and communications teams design and implement integrated campaigns to promote alumni events annual giving initiatives and volunteer opportunities.
Use print digital and social channels to tell compelling stories and strengthen the Universitys brand among alumni and donors.
Monitor engagement metrics and feedback to refine messaging and outreach strategies.
Team Leadership & Operational Excellence
Lead mentor and develop a collaborative and high-performing team.
Promote a culture of creativity inclusion excellence and accountability.
Oversee department operations including budget management strategic planning technology systems and performance measurement.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise a staff of six professionals; three in Alumni Relations and three in Annual Giving.

Working Conditions:
Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
Physical Demands:
Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; speak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift carry and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

HIRING RANGE:Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification commensurate with candidates education experience skills and training. The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience skills knowledge abilities education licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is defined as theHiring Range. Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity and relevant qualifications.
BACKGROUND CHECK:Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. DRIVERS LICENSE CHECK:Possession of a valid Drivers License is required for certain positions. PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS:For certain positions typically in Public Safety Facilities Athletics and Information Technology Services departments employment is contingent upon a candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 Safety Officers in addition to a pre-employment physical exam will also be required to pass a psychological evaluation.
