Frontend Engineer (Metafold 3D)

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Application Developer to join the Metafold tech team. As our primary frontend developer you will be building a variety of client-facing applications to demonstrate and realize Metafolds core technologies.

Metafolds Geometric Intelligence API is a toolkit for working with 3D data. Manufacturers use Geometric Intelligence to evaluate manufacturability optimize part performance or extract embedded insights from their proprietary part catalogs. Our customers dramatically reduce manual checks with Metafolds automated geometric queries answering questions like: What manufacturing process should we use to make this part Have I made something similar in the past Can I manufacture this part with the machines on my shop floor

Who you are

• Experience building applications for the web in React/Typescript (or similar frameworks preferred)
• Prefer writing code that prioritizes simplicity and clarity over abstraction and speed of delivery
• Comfortable working with lower-level systems based on WebAssembly (WASM)
• Interest in experimenting with the latest web technologies
• Comfortable writing critical functionality from scratch
• Keen sense for pragmatic user interface design

What youll do

• Take ownership of existing and new web application development
• Features range from: interactive 3D viewports; processing and displaying large datasets; and simple asynchronous CRUD operations
• Continuously iterate and improve on application architecture while delivering key functionality in a fast-paced environment
• Pull together multiple ongoing backend development efforts into a cohesive and intuitive interface
• Manage application deployments and enforce security best practices
• Author and support client-facing software libraries to facilitate programmatic access to our backend(s)

Bonus points

• Experience building applications involving 3D graphics and geometry: writing shaders and host/GPU state synchronization
• Experience working with real-time communication protocols such as WebSocket or WebRTC
• Experience building applications for native platforms

Work Structure/Location

This is a remote role open to candidates in Eastern Canada. Bonus points if youre located in Toronto where most of our team and ecosystem partners are based.
