Job Description

ELEMENTARY LONG TERM OCCASIONAL OPPORTUNITY

2025/2026 SCHOOL YEAR

LTO Term: September 2 2025 to June 26 2026

1.0 Regional Itinerant Teacher for Blind/Low Vision

Qualification Requirements: Blind Specialist

Position Description:

To support development and academic progress of students who have Blind or Low Vision needs

Must be willing to work in any area of the board


Role:

  • Work directly with children and teachers to develop individualized programs

  • Work collaboratively with members of the Blind/LowVision Team to support a variety of vision needs across system

  • Provide literacy and numeracy instruction in Braille

  • Conduct Functional Vision assessments

  • Support School Teams in the development of Individual Education Plans and monitor progress of students

  • Monitor and assist with use of specialized equipment

  • Provide in-service to School Teams (including Administrators Teachers Early Childhood Educators and Educational Assistants) on the needs of students who are Blind or have Low Vision

  • Assist with new student intakes and transitions

  • Liaise with school-based case managers and outside agencies


Qualifications:

  • The Blind Specialist as per Regulation 298


Assets:

  • Direct experience with students who are Blind or have Low Vision

  • Knowledge of appropriate programming for Blind and Low Vision students including Braille instruction and use of tactiles

  • Awareness of effective assessment and evaluation tools

  • Strength in collaborative planning

  • Demonstrated team and facilitation skills

  • Experience in facilitating staff development
