Duties and Responsibilities

*Serves as an Admissions Specialist providing support for special programs administered by the Admissions Office outreach strategies including communication with departments and participation in recruitment activities and review of applications in an effort to increase student enrollment.

*Assists with admissions recruitment and outreach strategies for undergraduate programs with a focus on transfer pathways.

*Provides support for special programs through application processing application review and selection communication with departmental contacts and participation in recruitment events.

*Assists with outreach communication to strengthen partnerships with academic units at UHM.

*Communicates with various campus offices regarding admission for special programs administered by the Admissions Office.

*Counsels and advises students parents high school personnel faculty and the general public regarding admissions policies and procedures.

*Assists with operations processes for undergraduate special programs. Admissions operations includes but is not limited to: application document intake and processing; SIS maintenance; and compliance with admissions policies and procedures.

Assists with evaluating the effectiveness of admissions policies and procedures for students transferring to UHM through a special program.

*Reviews and evaluates student applications. Renders admission and scholarship decisions in alignment with admissions and enrollment management strategies.

Determines academic preparedness of transfer applicants by following all relevant admissions policies (e.g. backtracking repeating of courses courses with nontraditional grades etc.).

*Leads conducts and participates in recruitment activities and events for prospective and/or admitted/matriculated students. These activities and events may include but are not limited to: admission information sessions college fairs high school visits on-campus events and events for other constituents that support students through the college search process (ie: parents college counselors). Events held may be outside normally scheduled work hours and involve travel inter-state and out-of-state.

Minimum Qualifications

1.Possession of a baccalaureate degree in arts and humanities science social science business administration education counseling or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for N/A; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.

2.Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of admissions admission of undergraduates and/or student services demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.

3.Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with admissions admission of undergraduates and/or student services.

4.Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the admissions admission of undergraduates and/or student services.

5.Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

6.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.

7.Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

8.Some understanding of the content of undergraduate education at a college or university.

9.Ability to work outside normally scheduled work hours including nights weekends and holidays.

10.Ability to travel off island including neighbor islands and mainland for purposes including visitations presentations and college fairs.

11.Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawaii Drivers license (class 3) comparable drivers license or other means of transportation which meets position needs.

12.Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds with or without assistance.

Desirable Qualifications

1.Considerable knowledge of the transfer process to a 4-year institution.

2.Functional knowledge of the student information system utilized by UHM.

3.Knowledge of UHM and its policies and procedures.
