We currently have an opening for a Network Technician


This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agencys remote work program but does require weekly onsite work


This is an anticipated vacancy. This position is expected to become vacant on 7/3/2025

The Network Technician is responsible for onsite support across all services utilizing ITIL service processes of change incident release and configuration management. This position will implement new releases of service components into the operational environment following well-defined processes. This position will implement moves adds and changes to service components. This position will be involved in the investigation diagnosis resolution of problems and incidents. Service components include routers firewalls switches gateways cable infrastructure and communications software and protocols.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Performs site surveys assessments and physical inventories
Work with other analysts and specialists to resolve incidents and problems
Work with other analysts and specialists to perform changes
Performs installations of new equipment and infrastructure which may include cabling switches patch panel VOIP firewall routers APs at customer locations
Insure availability of proper equipment for site visits including tools cables and hardware


About the Division

The NCDIT Service Delivery organization provides for the central provisioning of the services offered by NCDIT including data voice and video for the State of North Carolina and other authorized government and public sector entities. The Service Delivery team designs develops and maintains the North Carolina Information Network (NCIN) the States official secure data communications network. NCIN is a multiprotocol router-based Wide Area Network providing statewide data communications and Internet connectivity to all Executive Branch agencies and participating non-Executive public sector entities.

The Network Field Support unit provides onsite field support to DIT customer sites statewide across a range of services such as WANLAN Security and VoIP.

To qualify for this position applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:


The following Management Preferences are not required but applicants that possess these skills are preferred:

  • Knowledge of cabling Infrastructure including cable management and testing
  • Basic knowledge of IP telephony
  • Ability to lift boxes that weigh 40 pounds or more. Some knowledge of IP addressing subnet masking and routing protocols such as OSPF BGP and static routing
  • Knowledge of fiber optic wiring and LAN termination standards. Knowledge of ITIL concepts

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of IT experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
