Description of Work

This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporaries are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

Individuals hired into a temporary State job must be fully qualified for the job. OSHR supports the Governors Job Ready initiative and seeks to expand a temporarys skill set to enhance their qualifications for State government and private sector jobs. Exposure to an agencys culture process procedures and potential learning opportunities can provide valuable experience to those who may seek permanent employment with the state.

This temporary position is located in Raleigh NC - Wake County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $40.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety. This position is located at 512 N Salisbury St Raleigh NC 27604.
Remote: up to 2 days a week.

This position supports the Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. This position reports to a Deputy
General Counsel and will provide the following services:
(1) assist in the drafting and legal review of Department contracts and memoranda of understanding:
(2) assist in policy development and the legal review of proposed policies and standard operating procedures:
(3) provide legal counsel and advice regarding statutes. policies and rules applicable to al l aspects of juvenile justice including but not limited to
relevant statutes in the NC Juvenile Code:
(4) assist in the drafting and legal review of department-sponsored legislation in the area of juvenile justice;
(5) assist in creating and delivering training on legal topics to juvenile justice personnel. including assisting with the development of written training materials:
(6) provide consultation and guidance to juvenile justice official regarding requests for confidential juvenile records. which involves the application of complex federal and state privacy laws; and
(7) review internal administrative investigations into allegations that an employee violated an agency policy.

This position may also provide other legal advice and assistance to Department administration and management as needed. The employee must use good judgment demonstrate initiative and exercise discretion in dealing with sensitive or confidential issues or information. Complex or controversial problems arc discussed with 1he supervisor. The supervisor provides verbal and written guidance and feedback to the position. Supervision is also received through review of reports and discussions as to the status of assignments. This position ordinarily works forty hours a week. Work occasionally requires travel within the state.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Juris Doctor from an appropriately accredited institution.

Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar and two years of progressively responsible professional legal experience. NOTE: GS 114-2 and 114-6 make it the duty of the Attorney General of NC to represent the State of North Carolina in all litigation unless another statute specifically states otherwise.
