The Employment Specialist supports families residing in our transitional shelter by helping them achieve financial independence through employment. This role focuses on job readiness career counseling and connecting clients to workforce development opportunities education and training programs. The specialist will work closely with clients to identify barriers to employment and develop realistic individualized employment plans.
Key Responsibilities:Conduct initial assessments to determine employment history skills barriers to employment and career goals.
Develop and implement individualized employment plans in collaboration with clients and case managers.
Provide job readiness training including resume writing interview preparation and job search strategies.
Assist clients in accessing vocational training certification programs adult education and GED preparation when needed.
Establish and maintain relationships with local employers job training programs and workforce agencies.
Connect clients to job fairs employment opportunities and placement services.
Support clients in overcoming employment barriers such as childcare needs transportation or legal issues by connecting them to appropriate services.
Track employment progress document outcomes and maintain accurate and timely case notes and reports.
Collaborate with shelter staff to ensure services are aligned with clients overall service and housing goals.
Provide follow-up services to ensure job retention and long-term employment stability.
Participate in team meetings staff development and interagency collaborations.
Bachelors degree in Human Services Social Work Psychology or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
Minimum 2 years of experience in workforce development job coaching or employment services preferably with homeless or low-income populations.
Strong understanding of employment trends local labor market and community resources.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and manage sensitive client information with discretion.
Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Computer literacy including experience with Microsoft Office and online job platforms.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
On-site at a transitional family shelter in New Rochelle NY.
Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to meet client and program needs.
