Project Details: Scout all the buildings at the Zoo. Document an inventory of all devices and list product type model function vendor etc. per location. Create a depository of images depicting the technologies present across the Zoo. Review network diagrams and define IP schemes current configuration protocols and connectivity. Define and associate devices applications to the various vendor
technologies present at the Zoo JCI- Gateway POS etc. etc.
TITLE: Network Analyst
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR Supervisor of Infrastructure Services
GENERAL FUNCTION
The Network Analyst is part of the Information Management Services Division (IMSD) which is responsible for all aspects of technology in Milwaukee County. The Network Analyst assists in designing implementing and maintaining the networks by managing network IP addresses communicating network information and requirements to connect hosts onto the network and installing upgrading and maintaining network routers switches firewalls wireless access points wireless controllers other network devices and servers. The Network Analyst works with vendors to research emerging technologies and diagnose and resolve network problems. The Network Analyst utilizes multiple tools to monitor the network to ensure optimum performance and to assist in troubleshooting issues. The Network Analyst maintains internet links works with other Information Services units faculty and staff in the integration maintenance and problem resolution of network services maintains documentation and database information and works with Procurement Services in the preparation and evaluation of bid specifications for network hardware and software.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A bachelors degree is required. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
Experience: One to three year(s) of computer networking infrastructure experience is required. Wireless technology experiences desired.
Skills: The ability to follow technical instructions both verbal and written is required. The ability to solve network-related problems by using diagnostic techniques and protocols is required. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information processed stored or accessed by the networks is required. A thorough understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP and networking equipment including routers switches and wireless system is required. Familiarity with backbone and Wide Area networking (WAN) components wiring infrastructures VPNs Layer 2 and 3 networking protocols multicast firewalls DHCP DNS IP address management and network monitoring software is preferred.
Effort: Requires working at computer workstations for extended periods of time and requires regularly lifting and carrying objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds and occasionally up to fifty pounds. Requires sufficient mobility to replace networking equipment and connect cables in ceilings and wiring centers which may require climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Scout and map the entirety of the Milwaukee Count Zoo wireless infrastructure.
2. Document an inventory of all devices and list product type model function vendor etc. per location.
3. Create a depository of images depicting the technologies present across the Zoo
4. Review network diagrams and define IP schemes current configuration protocols and connectivity
5. Define and associate devices applications to the various vendor technologies present at the Zoo - JCI- Gateway POS etc. etc. Assures the Universitys networking requirements are met with the highest level of performance and reliability by assisting the Supervisor of Infrastructure Services in maintaining the hardware and software components of the Universitys networks.
6. Contributes to the overall success of Information Services by performing all other essential duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION:
The Network Analyst is supervised by the Supervisor of Infrastructure Services. Position will not have any direct reports.
