MRI Tech Aide performs a variety of receptionist/clerical and transportation functions for divisions of Diagnostic Services. Processes forms paperwork and other materials related to patients and procedures. Contacts patients prior to appointment as a reminder and to review clinical history. Answers phone calls receives requisitions and schedules patients. Moves patients using stretchers wheelchairs car or by walking patients to and from various areas of the hospital to MRI unit. Maintains prescribed stocks of linen and other supplies.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Provides receptionist/clerical support to department

  • Receives telephone calls from nursing unit and/or physicians offices and schedules diagnostic services procedures in coordination with the technical with other departments for the coordination of patients to minimize waits and with nursing units to coordinate timing and administration of prescribed medications preps and instructions.
  • Gathers information for MRI magnetic safety forms and confers with MRI technologist to ensure proper protocols are followed during with financial counselor to ensure that pre-approvals are given prior to the test.
  • Greets all customers and provides assistance as required. Monitors patients in the waiting areas. Periodically rechecks patients and reports any patient distress to the start of roots with the Diagnostic Services nurse or .
  • Operates standard office equipment including copy/fax machines and computers. Performs various clerical functions for all divisions of Diagnostic Servicesincluding updating files revising schedules retrieving films and reports.

Transports Patients.

  • Assists patient into wheelchair stretchers or vehicles. Provides assistance to ambulatory patients. Provides other forms of assistance to patients including helping withclothing going to bathrooms etc.
  • Follows all safety policies when transporting patients such as universal precaution firesafety etc.
  • Verifies patient identification per Bristol Hospital policy.
  • As required transports medical equipment such as I-med machines portable oxygen tanks etc.
  • Coordinates transportation for inpatients to and from the MRI unit.
  • Assists patients to bathroom.

Assists Technologists.

  • Assists in positioning patient.
  • Helps coordinating STAT appointment with Technologist in charge.
  • Assists technologists with MRI coils.


Maintains communications.

  • Preliminarily explains procedure to patients and helps provide reassurance to anxious patients.
  • Explains consent forms.
  • Explains any backlogs or delays which may occur.
  • Reads reports to authorized staff over inquiries and providesrequested assistance on matters dealing with Diagnostic Services.
  • Keeps engineering and the safety officer informed of MRI days of service.
  • Conducts MRI safety interviews with scheduled and confirms MRI appointments day before exam.

Performs related duties

  • Checks and maintains supplies for designated area. Maintains equipment and work area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Assists with training and orientation of new employees.
  • May be assigned to work temporarily in other department according to department needs.
  • Attends 66% of staff meetings.

Qualifications

Qualifications
Educational / Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma.
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
None
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital.
Special Requirements:
Good customer service telephone and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of medical terminology as well as typing data entry skills.
Physical Requirements:
On feet 50% of day with lifting 50 lbs. or more routinely. Physical agility including but not limited to bending stooping walking reaching standing pulling pushing and twisting. Hearing and sign corrected to normal. Ability to verbalize so the average person can comprehend.
Work Environment:
Worker must adjust to performing routine repetitive tasks under specific supervision. Worker will be performing in a magnetic field area. Employee may frequently be exposed to blood body tissues or fluids; hazardous waste materials; unpleasant noises and other patient elements.
Cognitive Requirements:
Good clerical skills good written and oral communications skills literate in English. Good organizational skills with ability to follow written and verbal instructions with multiple steps.
