Role: To provide comprehensive health care and services to all students in the Norwood Public SchoolsResponsible for the planning implementation and follow-up of all state mandated School Health Programs routine and athletic physical examinations Maintains reviews and updates accurate statistics on all programs including communicable disease and immunization recording as mandated by the Massachusetts Department of HealthMaintains tuberculin screening records of all new pupils as per School PolicyMaintains and updates cumulative student health recordsActively involved as the Health Specialist in Team Evaluations and follow-upAdminister emergency care for school-related injuries and illnesses using standard procedures developed by the medical and/or nursing staffResponsible along with school physician for the review and revision of standing orders for school health. Provide for exclusion and readmission of pupils for health-related reasonsRespond to all health-related problems including child abuse and neglect substance abuse nutritional concerns adolescent sexuality and pregnancy as needed. Act as a liaison between school home and community agenciesReviews absences for possible health conditionsInforms necessary staff of a students special individual health-related problem(s) with written parental consent; Provides appropriate health counseling and referral for students families and staff as neededResponsible for home assessment visits as neededIs cognizant of student health and psychosocial resources in the community and makes appropriate referrals as neededMaintain and support confidentiality in all health-related mattersDemonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills both orally and in writing. Participate in professional development activities on the local state and national level as directed by the Building Principal and Supervisor of NursesPerform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and Supervisor of Nurses
