Power Plant Instructor located in Seward!

This position is in the Alaska Vocational Technical Teachers Unit (AVTECTA).


What You Will Be Doing:
Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC) a division of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development is recruiting for an AVTEC Instructor who will be responsible for planning developing and delivering instruction in the Power Plant Operator and Bulk Fuels Operator programs ONLINEand in person. As the Power Plant Instructor your duties will include maintaining and developing program curriculum; designing building and maintaining the practical industry-based labs and shop areas; facilitating program advisory board meetings; and maintaining student training records.

Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
  • Education and Training: Knowledge of teaching training making presentations lecturing assessing student learning and mastery of skills and other instructional methods. Applicants can expect to complete a demonstration of their abilities.
  • Mechanics: Knowledge of machines and tools including their design use benefits repair operation and maintenance.
  • Developing Others: Develops the ability of others to perform and contribute to the organization by providing ongoing feedback and by providing opportunities to learn through formal and informal methods.
  • Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information changing conditions or unexpected obstacles.
  • Electrical Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts principles theories and methods related to the design analysis test and integration of electrical systems; energy conversion; electrical power generation; and energy transmission control distribution or use.

Qualifications

Four years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable field.

OR SUBSTITUTION:
A bachelors degree from an accredited college in the applicable field;
AND
Two years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable field;
AND
Two years professional experience developing coordinating and presenting adult training or vocational education programs.

OR SUBSTITUTION:
An industry recognized professional certification in the applicable field;
AND
Two years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable field;
AND
Two years professional experience developing coordinating and presenting adult training or vocational education programs.

Special Note:
Positions in the AVTEC Instructor job class require expertise in a particular vocational field such as the culinary arts business or office technology applied technology information technology maritime operations or safety medical services construction or the trades. The required training or experience for each position is unique to the assigned field of instruction. Recruitment and selection for these positions will be from among only those candidates who have the appropriate specialty background identified in the recruitment bulletin.
