The Research Scientist under general supervision will design and implement applied research projects analyze complex data sets research identify and apply for grant funding to support research evaluate programs and provide technical assistance to satisfy the Centers legislative mandate. Support research provide technical assistance and translate research into training for the Centers trainer(s). The research scientist must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
Support Center-led research initiatives under general supervision.
Maintain an independent research program including but not limited to research on juvenile delinquent conduct at risk behavior and crime in Texas.
Conceptualize develop and design quantitative and qualitative research designs pertaining to juvenile crime prevention and intervention.
Summarize analyze and report original research findings for publication particularly to peer reviewed journals.
Evaluate programs relating to juvenile risk delinquency and crime.
Identify and apply for grant funding.
Work with graduate student assistant(s) and graduate interns.
Travel to Center sites ( currently Harris Smith & Dallas counties) as needed.
Collaborate with State and other agencies and colleagues in designing research project evaluation projects and providing technical assistance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in criminal justice criminology psychology social work or related field.
Six years of related experience.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Strong analytical oral communication organizational and writing skills.
Demonstrative evidence of statistical analysis packages usage (e.g. SPSS R SAS).
Detail-oriented and able to adhere to deadlines.
May supervise.
Preferred Qualifications
Seven plus years of related job experience.
Four plus years of peer-reviewed publications.
Demonstrative evidence of data management.
Experience working collaboratively with colleagues state/federal agencies and community agencies.
Ability to work on multiple and/or complex research projects.
