PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Science Lab Teacher will provide high-level science support for the campus that is consistent and fulfills the requirements of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Assessment requirements and implementation of research-based instructional strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification/ Experience:
Bachelors degree required
Valid Texas teaching certificate or permit with required endorsements for subject /level assigned required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Deep understanding of scientifically based research for teaching science and assessing student progress toward achievement of benchmarks
Extensive knowledge base of content methodologies for teaching science as well as TEKS STAAR and Curriculum Documents
Gather and assist in analyzing data and complete reports related to Science
Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the science achievement of struggling science students
Ability to plan and organize work set priorities and evaluate accomplishment of goals within established timelines with minimum supervision
Ability to hold records reports test test results and conversations in confidence
Ability to maintain proper records of inventory of science lab equipment.
Experience:
Three (3) year teaching experience required
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist teachers with the use of appropriate core and supplemental intervention materials that align with district and state curriculum for differentiated instruction (Sp. Ed. EL etc.)
2. Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate labs that enhances their lesson.
3. Assist teachers with integrating appropriate manipulative/technology into their content instruction
4. Monitor the progress of struggling students and offer suggestions for intervention to meet student science needs.
5. Co-Teach with science teachers during implementation of laboratory investigations.
6. Serve as a catalyst for change by providing research-base alternative to current practices and procedures.
7. Assist with the selection of books and other instructional materials to meet individuals science needs.
8. Spend 90% of time co-teaching labs for grades 6-8 students in the Sci-Tek room or teacher lab classroom. Spend 10% of the time planning with science teachers in the integration of more labs.
9. Become familiar with the administration and interpretation of in-depth diagnostic measures or additional assessments adopted by the district.
10. Ability to work closely with the science teachers to coordinate and implement labs that align to the district curriculum.
11. Keep the immediate supervisor(s) informed regarding the status of all subjects or inventory and repairs of all science lab equipment and technological devices.
12. All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification as appropriate.
13. Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
14. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues students parents and community members.
15. Compile maintain and file a log of activities reports records and other document required.
16. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
17. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
