Summary
- **This position is only open to King County Metro Employees who have completed the probationary period in their current career service position. **
King County Metro seeks an expert race equity practitioner to serve as the Equity Inclusion and Belonging (EIB) Manager III. This position will ensure Equity and Social Justice (ESJ) initiatives within the Metro department are aligned and integrated with King Countys pro-equity and anti-racism goals and approaches.
Metros EIB team works to deliver on a long-standing vision to become a racially just department. EIB is committed to improving the lives of the workforce by systemically developing and retaining a more racially just workforce and operationalizing belonging at all levels of Metro: leadership management and staff.

This role will continue to refine and deepen the strategic direction of the existing EIB portfolio of pro-equity tactics and outcomes by continuing to develop internal coalitions of practitioners and organizers committed to race equity. As the leader of the EIB team you will actively work to build the capacity leaders employees and partners to create the conditions for a healthy and thriving workforce free of oppression.
This recruitment will be used to fill One (1) Special Duty Assignment (SDA)EIB Manager III. This SDA is open to current King County Metro employees who have completed the probationary period in their current position. The SDA is anticipated to last nine months with a possibility of extension. Job Duties
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
We are looking for candidates who meet the Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
- Possession of a high level of self-awareness emotional intelligence and an ongoing engagement to self- exploration related to race power and privilege including performing a power analysis.
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze power identify manifestations of racism and oppression and support leadership growth areas.
- Imagination and demonstrated creativity to develop and support new processes that complement more equitable outputs and outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience dismantling institutionalized racist practices in a community business government or political setting.
- Skill in communicating effectively with employees to inspire culture change regarding communities who have historically been harmed neglected or excluded.
- Experience engaging and involving historically marginalized employees in leadership development and organizing for change.
- Aptitude to navigate through challenging situations with honesty tact and diplomacy while fostering a meaningful engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals with varying opinions and backgrounds and handle politically sensitive inquiries.
- Experience creating processes and systems to document report and monitor equitable outcomes.
- Strong analytical skills including quantitative and qualitative analysis with the ability to translate metrics research and trends into strategy and improvement opportunities.
- Experience working with a diversity of stakeholders such as unions elected officials leadership and workers.
- Facilitation mediation and conflict resolution skills with a specific focus on racialized conflict.
- Ability to manage complex and multi-disciplinary projects to completion.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 including Word Excel Outlook SharePoint and OneDrive.
- Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties.
The most competitive candidates will also possess these desirable qualifications:
- Evidence of prior leadership that notably impacted systems of oppression and/or institutional racism.
- Masters Degree in human resources education sociology public administration social justice or related field; or equivalent (JD MBA etc.).
- Five to eight years of progressively responsible related experience in advancing equity inclusion and belonging in a complex organization.

Work Schedule
This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and not overtime eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule every other Thursday comprising a 40-hour workweek normally 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This position will be located in the King Street Center Building- 201 S Jackson St Seattle WA98104.
Teleworking Requirement
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly in a hybrid work environment working in the office and at home. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within areas on able distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace
reporting requirements.
