Associate Director of Admissions (Lower School or Upper School) San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA) Full-Time Exempt (could potentially be part-time as well - should it be mutually beneficial) Reports to: Director of Admissions About SDJA San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA) is a vibrant Preschool through 12th-grade Jewish day school that blends academic excellence with Jewish values and a deep sense of community. Our Early Childhood Center (ECC) Lower School (K5) and Upper School (612) each provide supportive environments where students flourish academically socially emotionally and spiritually. Position Summary The Associate Director of Admissions plays a critical role in advancing SDJAs enrollment and retention goals by overseeing recruitment relationship-building and onboarding of students and families. This position may focus on Preschool through Grade 5 (Lower School) and/or Grades 612 (Upper School) depending on the hire. The Associate Director provides a warm informed and strategic admissions experience for prospective families manages application workflows coordinates events and fosters community partnerships that sustain a healthy admissions pipeline.
The ideal candidate is approachable strategic detail-oriented and mission-aligned with the flexibility to serve families across different age groups and school divisions.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Relationship Management - Serve as the primary admissions contact for either Lower School (Preschool5) or Upper School (612). - Conduct engaging individual and group tours interviews and student visit experiences. - Cultivate relationships with prospective families feeder schools community organizations synagogues and camps. - Represent SDJA at recruitment fairs school visits and outreach events. - Collaborate with Parent Ambassadors that support the recruitment retention and onboarding of new families. - Partner with Division Heads faculty and staff to increase visibility and referrals.
Admissions Process & Application Management - Guide families through the admissions process including application steps assessments documentation and financial aid. - Maintain accurate records in admissions software platforms (e.g. Admissions or similar). - Coordinate application reviews interviews assessments and admissions committee preparation. - Ensure smooth communication with families and internal stakeholders throughout the admissions cycle.
Events & On-Campus Engagement - Plan and execute events such as Open Houses Preview Days Visit Days and Welcome Programs. - Engage faculty students and Parent/Lion Ambassadors in admissions-related events. - Participate in campus events to build community connections and understand school culture. - Train and supervise student ambassadors (e.g. Lion Ambassadors for Upper School).
Marketing & Communications - Collaborate with the Marketing team to craft messaging aligned with the schools division. - Ensure the divisions strengths are clearly conveyed across print digital and verbal platforms. - Personalize follow-ups and touchpoints for prospective families. - Promote workshops and onboarding sessions for new families.
Retention & Transition Support - Collaborate with academic leadership to support transitions (e.g. Preschool to Kindergarten Grade 5 to 6 Grade 8 to 9). - Assist in tracking retention data and identifying attrition risks. - Develop and support programming that strengthens family connections at key transition points. - Serve on faculty teams as needed to address student or family concerns that may impact retention.
Qualifications
Required - Bachelors degree. - 35 years of relevant experience in admissions education recruitment or related fields. - Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills. - Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. - Technologically adept with admissions platforms and Microsoft Office Suite. - Availability for occasional evening and weekend events. - Commitment to the mission and values of a Jewish day school.
Preferred - Experience in independent or Jewish education. - Background working with either early childhood/lower grades or middle/high school populations. - Bilingual or multilingual communication skills. - Experience with community engagement and strategic outreach. - Familiarity with diversity equity inclusion and justice initiatives.
