Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Accounting the Associate Director of Accounting is responsible for the supervision and financial operations of student accounts grants fixed assets cash management reconciliations mail room and other matters of a financial nature.
Essential Functions
Areas of oversight include grants cash services/reconciliation student accounts fixed assets and the mailroom Create journal entries and budget adjustments Maintain the general ledger and associated security and approval tracks Reconcile assigned accounts Assist the Director of Accounting in making adjusting entries and financial reporting Maintain payment processing applications including users permissions eMarket links payment plan set up meal plans POS setup and reporting Serves as a financial liaison for other departments Assist campus personnel with departmental budgets Analyze review and post journal entries prepared by accountants and cashiers Coordinate and supervise the processing of financial transactions between the College and the bookstore contractor Set up charges and refunds according to the board-approved schedule Supervises Staff Accountants Supervises Student Accounts/Cashiers offices including the proper assessment and collection of tuition and fees the billing of third-party payers and the reconciliation of third-party payments Supervise the campus mail service Assists the Director of Accounting with matters of a financial nature Assists the Director of Accounting with the preparation of the year-end Audited Financial Statement for Midland College Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
Some travel for training may be required Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time Use of manual dexterity Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus The person in this position needs to occasionally move from the office to other locations on or off campus Office setting Duties indoors and some outdoors
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting or a closely related field Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience making significant accounting decisions Supervisory experience Proficient in the use of complex accounting information systems Strong accounting and financial reporting experience Proficient in Excel and at least a working knowledge of Word and other desktop applications Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work some extended hours Ability to handle multiple tasks; excellent data entry and communication skills and the ability to work with college personnel concerning accounting issues Detail-oriented and self-motivated Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License good driving record and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
At least 18 college hours in accounting Masters degree or CPA Knowledge of accounting for not-for-profit organizations or governmental entities Knowledge of fund accounting principles and concepts
