Pay Range

Hiring Range: $23.92 - $28.71 Per Hour

Pay Range: $23.92 - $33.49 Per Hour

Range Explanation:

  • Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience education licenses training and internal equity.

  • Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.

Essential Functions:

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act this classification may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

  • Inspects Public Works construction projects for general compliance with County specifications and design plans;

  • Coordinates monitors and documents details of testing and start-up procedures and compiles results and certifications to ensure Department and State minimum requirements are met prior to acceptance of the construction work;

  • Works with utility companies to establish suitable locations for utilities within construction constraints and inspects installation of utility and drainage pipes;

  • Ensures project specific requirements to minimize environmental and public impact during construction are enforced;

  • Executes confined-space/hot-entry procedures and uses safety equipment as needed during the performance of the inspection activities;

  • Documents actions and activities during the performance of construction activities and during emergency responses.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in construction projects such as sewers water lines roadways bridges flood control channels.

OR

Two years of experience with Pima County as a Public Works Engineering Technician Sewer Line Construction Worker.

OR

Two years of experience with Pima County as a Utility Locator or Utility Coordinator.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Minimum two (2) years experience working with at-risk or homeless individuals particularly in social services or outreach to develop empathy communication skills and a respectful approach in sensitive situations.

  • Minimum two (2) years experience in de-escalating tense situations and effectively communicating both verbally and in writing with diverse groups such as individuals experiencing homelessness contractors and city officials.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience conducting site inspections and assessments using digital tools for reporting and record-keeping and identifying hazards or environmental concerns to ensure safety and improve processes.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience conducting inspections in outdoor environments including rough terrain and adverse weather with the physical stamina to handle potentially hazardous conditions.

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information:

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record. All positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application. Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: Occasionally observes construction details at close range. Frequently required to exchange and obtain accurate information.

Frequently moves about the construction site to monitor and inspect the project. Occasionally moves tools and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.

Frequently operates a motor vehicle safely and legally in accordance with applicable state and federal transportation laws. Occasionally moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally ascends/descends ladders and other equipment to thoroughly inspect the construction project. Must have a clean driving record. Other physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position.

Working Conditions: Occasionally exposed to adverse weather conditions.

Occasionally required to work in dangerous places like trenches and confined spaces. Occasionally exposed to light to heavy traffic conditions. Occasionally exposed to heavy vehicular construction equipment. Occasionally required to walk long distances on public streets and rough terrain. Occasionally exposed to loud noise levels. Other working conditions will be determined by position.
