POSITION:Custodian SHIFT: Second ShiftLOCATION: Thompson Middle SchoolREPORTS TO:Plant Engineer/ PrincipalSTART DATE: 07/01/2025JOB DESCRIPTION: To perform all responsibilities necessary and as directed by the Plant Engineer and/or Principal to provide students with a safe attractive comfortable clean and efficient place in which to learn play and TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:Graduation from high school or have knowledge of general maintenance and cleaning be be able to cooperate with administrators teachers and be able to make minor adjustments and/or repairs to building and ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by educational and work-related experiences previous employment and the interview such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee deems acceptable and appropriate provided that the above qualifications cannot be :Keeps buildings and premises including sidewalks driveways and play areas neat and clean at all school in accordance with the planned cleaning program. Assignment of sections will be made by the Plant Engineer and/or heat and ventilation to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel water and plows and sands walks parking lots driveways and steps when furniture or equipment within the building as required for various activities and as daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building the grounds free from such yard-keeping chores as grass cutting tree trimming and the like as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash rubbish and responsibility for building security during work the operation of all Newport School Department property in case of all emergency major repairs needed promptly to the Plant Engineer and/ or immediately to the Plant Engineer and/ or Principal any damage to school other maintenance duties as assigned by the Plant Engineer and/ or MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:Walking climbing stooping reaching pushing talking pulling crawling crouching lifting (50 pound minimum) handling hearing grasping standing kneeling carrying seeing balancing and CONDITIONS:Work inside/outside adequate lighting/ventilation work with/around others and work OF EMPLOYMENT:In accordance with the Local 841 contract-Custodian Pay Grade 3. 40 hours per week. hour unpaid Middle School6:00am-2:30pmAPPLICATIONS:Applicants apply through are not to approach members of the Newport School Committee.
