Job Description: Project Manager

About the role

lowRISC CIC is a not-for-profit hardware and software engineering company collaborating with international partners to create and maintain open source silicon designs firmware and tools. This includes lowRISCs flagship OpenTitan project - the largest open source silicon project in the world.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Project Manager to join our engineering team. This is a hands-on role based in our Cambridge office working closely with both our technical teams and external partners to coordinate the delivery of complex open-source silicon projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan track and manage the successful delivery of projects in a technically complex environment.
  • Work closely with engineering teams on silicon and embedded software projects.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of collaborative projects between lowRISC silicon partners and academic researchers.
  • Support design review and verification processes to ensure outstanding deliverable quality.
  • Support open-source silicon community management and governance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of team collaboration and project delivery methods.

Required experience

  • Bachelors degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 3 years project management experience in highly technical environments.
  • Strong understanding of good practices in planning and managing delivery in technically challenging projects.
  • Experience working closely with technical teams and facilitating cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong relationship management abilities excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable experience

  • Strong grasp of hardware development processes including digital design FPGA development or silicon design flows.
  • Familiarity with open-source development and community-driven projects.

Salary Benefits and Sponsorship

Starting salary is 65-90k GBP depending on experience. Benefits include a generous employer pension contribution (up to 12.5%) holiday allowance (33 days including public holidays) private medical insurance and a 4 week paid sabbatical after 4 years of service. You will join us at our offices in the centre of Cambridge.

lowRISC is a non-profit Community Interest Company that uses a collaborative engineering approach to develop and maintain open source silicon designs and supporting software. Our mission is to unlock the potential of open source silicon and enable its widespread adoption with more credible accessible and efficient silicon solutions than exist today.

Through projects like OpenTitan we partner with organisations such as ETH Zrich GD Mobile Security Google Nuvoton Seagate and Western Digital. We also maintain close links to researchers in computer architecture at the University of Cambridge amongst other research communities.

The team is based in Cambridge UK amongst the Silicon Fens ecosystem of high tech startups. Our office is in the heart of the city and a short walk from the train station.
