Description

Job Summary:

The Estimating portion of the role requires evaluating project costs and preparing detailed cost estimates for various projects (roof anchors fall protection load testing etc..). This role involves analyzing blueprints specifications communicating with sales team and other documentation to determine the scope of work and associated costs. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate and competitive estimates that support successful project bids and financial planning.

The Project Management portion of the role is responsible for leading and managing projects from initiation through completion ensuring they are delivered on time within scope and within budget. This role involves planning coordinating and overseeing project activities while collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational leadership and problem-solving skills with a proven track record of successfully managing projects.

Key Responsibilities Estimation:

  1. Cost Estimation:
    • Review drawings and phots provide by sales team specifications and other relevant documentation to understand project scope.
    • Prepare accurate cost estimates for labor materials equipment and tools.
    • Analyze historical data vendor quotes and market trends to inform estimates.
  2. Proposal Preparation:
    • Develop detailed bids in estimating system for use in sales teams proposals and cost breakdowns for submission to clients.
    • Collaborate with sales team operations engineers and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with project requirements and budgets.
  3. Scope of Work Analysis:
    • Assess project scope and specifications from sales team to identify potential risks changes or additional costs.
    • Define project scope with sales team and identify any areas that may require additional resources or adjustments.
  4. Vendor and Subcontractor Evaluation:
    • Utilize manufacture standard pricing spreadsheets or engineering standard master service agreement pricing for proper estimating. Solicit quotes and gather information from vendors and subcontractors as necessary.
    • Evaluate and adjust scope of subcontractor bids to integrate them into overall project estimates.
  5. Cost Control and Budgeting:
    • Monitor and track project costs throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Provide cost forecasting and budget management support to ensure projects remain within financial parameters.
  6. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare and maintain detailed records of estimates including supporting documentation: manufacture pricing spreadsheets layouts photos and supplier cutsheets. Created reference documentation for ordering specific materials or tools required by the project. Documentation will be stored in the project folders using standard organization and folder protocol.
    • Generate and present reports on estimate accuracy bid results and cost trends.
  7. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with operations sales team engineers and other team members to ensure accuracy and feasibility of estimates.
    • Participate in project meetings and provide insights on cost-related matters.
      1. Examples:
        1. Internal project handoffs with operations team to review the scope of work of the project trades involved tools and materials required. Coordinate and ensure all stakeholders are involved in handoff meeting. Identify plan and provide constructive solutions on how to handle scopes of work.
        2. Pre-construction meetings with the client either in person or virtually. To coordinate logistics (who what where when and how) storage of materials and trades.
        3. Coordinate engineering quality assurance inspections through engineering partners either directly or with project administrator. To be completed at approximately 50%-75% of the way through the project or earlier as necessary.
        4. Provide internal handoff to administrative team for load testing/certification and notification to client of project completion.
  8. Market Research:
    • Stay updated with industry trends market rates and new materials tools or technologies that may impact cost estimation.
    • Utilize market research to adjust estimates estimating software and maintain competitive pricing.
    • Identify new suppliers that provide superior quality service products or lower cost without sacrificing quality and service of our products.

Key Responsibilities (Project Management):

  1. Project Planning:
    • Develop detailed project plans including scope timelines resources and budgets.
    • Define project objectives deliverables and success criteria.
    • Create request/gather and organize submittals to provide to client as required by the project or client.
  2. Execution and Monitoring:
    • Lead project teams coordinate tasks and ensure adherence to project plans.
    • Monitor project progress through daily work reports weekly project management meetings identify and manage risks and implement corrective actions as needed.
  1. Resource Management:
    • Allocate and manage project resources including personnel equipment and materials.
    • Ensure optimal use of resources to achieve project goals and maintain budgetary constraints.
  2. Stakeholder Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders.
    • Provide regular updates on project status risks and issues to stakeholders and senior management.
  3. Budget and Financial Management:
    • Develop and manage project budgets including tracking expenditures and forecasting financial needs.
    • Ensure projects are completed within budget and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  4. Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and customer expectations.
    • Implement and oversee quality control processes throughout the project lifecycle.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive project documentation including plans reports and meeting minutes.
    • Prepare and present project reports status updates and performance metrics.
  6. Risk Management/Safety:
    • Work with Valcourts internal safety team and/or safety professionals to provide task hazard analysis job hazard analysis or site-specific plan to complete the project as required or requested by client. Utilize Valcourts internal systems programs and templates for these tasks.
    • Identify potential risks and issues develop mitigation strategies and address challenges promptly. Request support and assistance from Valcourts safety team subject matter experts or Director of Operations as needed.
    • Ensure proactive risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
  7. Team Leadership:
    • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
    • Provide guidance support and mentorship to project team members.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Construction Management Engineering Business Administration or a related field; relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Experience: (3-5) years of experience as an estimator in e.g. construction or manufacturing with a proven track record of accurate cost estimation.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
    • Proficiency in estimation software and tools (e.g. Procore Bluebeam Fieldwire Excel).
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints specifications and technical drawings.
    • Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with commercial construction or facility management.
  • Professional certification (e.g. Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE)).
  • Advanced project management certifications (e.g. PMP CAPM).
