Job Summary

The Radilogy Technologist Special Procedures II performs specialized radiologic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating diseases. This role requires expertise in handling advanced imaging equipment ensuring patient safety and following precise protocols to obtain high-quality diagnostic images. The Radilogy Technologist Special Procedures II collaborates with medical teams to deliver comprehensive patient care and supports the maintenance of imaging technology. Assists in leadership responsibilities in Special Procedures department area.

Essential Functions

  • Provides technical skills involving radiology and fluoroscopy. Takes labels and prints radiographs of various parts of the body intra-operatively and uploads properly to electronic record if available.
  • Confirms that all persons in the room are properly shielded before activating x-ray.
  • Keeps record of quality of aprons in stock and performs a yearly apron check to ensure protection is in place.
  • Cleans and maintains the x-ray equipment; ensures the preventive maintenance and regulatory survey of equipment is performed in a timely manner.
  • Educates staff regarding radiation devices in keeping with the rules of ALARA and radiation safety.
  • Tracks Dosimetry badges; implements / maintains the badge cycle and process.
  • Participates in regulatory survey as appropriate
  • Understands and applies aseptic surgical and radiological techniques (ie: tray preparation sterile draping and patient preparation).
  • Maintains knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques used for interventional/invasive procedures.
  • Adequately prepares equipment and instruments for interventional/invasive procedures.
  • Verifies signed informed consent and properly prepares patient for interventional/invasive procedures.
  • Recognizes physician needs during the interventional/invasive procedure and responds to them.
  • Presents exam education to the patient prior to the exam gives post procedure instructions pertinent to the interventional/invasive procedure performed.
  • Correctly performs digital imaging techniques.
  • Inventories and maintains specific angiography items such as catheters guide wires interventional sets work area; may purchase supplies for the area of responsibility; uses supplies cost effectively.
  • Performs hemostasis protocols and uses proper techniques to remove catheters as it relates to intravascular or angiographic studies.
  • Competently performs facility conscious sedation policies and procedures.
  • Follows the appropriate pre and post monitoring protocols for interventional/invasive procedures.
  • Assists with the workflow through the supervisor to ensure completion of work assignments.
  • Reviews each examination for technical accuracy presents completed examination to radiologist and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology required
  • 1-3 years clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist required
  • 3-5 years clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist in Special Procedures/IR/ASC preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to analyze organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively with patients families healthcare professionals and external vendors.
  • Ability to operate and understand radiographic technology and equipment/applications.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy and comply with all HIPPA requirements.
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and protection procedures.

Licenses and Certifications

  • ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire required
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support As required required
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support As required required
