Job Summary
This position provides bedded outpatient Substance Abuse and Mental Health Treatment to patients in the HMHI Adult Receiving Center. This position will prescribe medications and provide short-term treatment for SUD /mental health disorders within their scope of practice and according to State Law. The Adult Receiving Center at Huntsman Mental Health Institute ( HMHI ) helps individuals get help during a mental health crisis 24 hours a day seven days a week. Patients are supported by a skilled team of mental health care professionals who help patients receive care and create a connection to community resources. The interventions are short highly intensive and focused on resolving mental health crisis in the least restrictive manner possible. This approach leads to better patient outcomes with lower cost to an emergency room visit due to reduction of unnecessary inpatient care. Care is individualized to the needs of each patient: Crisis evaluation focused on understanding individual needs Psychiatric assessment of a persons mental health condition Medication prescribing if needed for stabilizing symptoms Solution-focused therapy peer support and case management Recommendations for next steps and connection to ongoing support Crisis observation if needed for up to 23 hours.
Responsibilities
Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians. Performs physical examinations. Orders laboratory tests x-rays special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures. Orders and supervises the administration of blood products. Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical surgical and other conditions. Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management. Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings clubs boards and conferences. Assists in the collection of data for research projects. Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams. Participates in special projects and committee functions.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah. Preferred Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Utah State prescriptive privileges. Licensure is obtained by completing a Masters degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Masters degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination. UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements or be approved for an exemption prior to the first day of work.
