Job Description

Working/Functional Title

Care and Intervention Specialist

Position Summary

This position located in Employee and Labor Relations serves as the primary resource for employee care intervention and behavioral threat assessment and is a liaison to the universitys Care and Intervention Team. The incumbent will engage university partners to identify prevent assess intervene and reduce threats to the safety and well-being of the MSU community. They will drive the development of office best practices and protocols university outreach and ensure excellent employee experiences including clear timely and relevant support. This position will provide leadership in trauma-informed case management support and will be vital in enabling the success of campus-wide initiatives and goals.

Work to primarily be performed on-site with some opportunity for remote work.

Primary Accountabilities

Consultation

  • Lead and collaborate with other campus partners on HR issues related to workplace safety and threat assessment
  • Navigate university policy collective bargaining agreements performance management processes and best practices and legal frameworks such as the ADA for mental health needs related to campus safety and wellbeing
  • Connect employees with appropriate resources to effectively address concerns impacting employee and workplace safety
  • Responsible for identifying behaviors that raise concern such as threats bullying harassment or other indicators of potential violence and ensure appropriate action is taken to address the concerns
  • Oversee unit contact and follow-up protocols and activities to ensure access to resources support and services are provided in a timely and efficient manner
  • Establish and guide university and community partners in the development and maintenance of relevant and meaningful case management plans. Developing and implementing interventions to address situations which can include counseling support services or in some cases disciplinary action.
  • Manage caseload assignments and administration of services and office support for associated units and employees utilizing caseload management software

Outreach and training

  • Present workshops and disseminate educational materials to university departments and units on employee care and intervention methods best practices threat assessment and intervention and university procedures including performance management and accommodations.
  • Educate and support units when requested on specific matters related to care intervention and behavioral threat assessment.
  • Build rapport and trust with the university and community partners to foster a culture of care and safety.

Program and material development

  • Prepare educational and promotional materials and marketing for services
  • Develop and oversee a case management model for the office including outlining supporting structures and protocols
  • Review current and propose new policies when necessary to ensure a safe and thriving workplace experience
  • Develop outreach and contact protocols when receiving a report or employee concern
  • Establish and maintain documentation protocols to ensure confidentiality and accuracy of record keeping and reporting

    Other duties as assigned
    May provide coverage and support to additional functional areas within Employee and Labor Relations

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Human Resources Administration Labor and Employee Relations or a related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in human resources administration threat assessment and/or program development and implementation in a Human Resource area related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Policy Interpretation & Application: Skilled in reading interpreting and applying complex university policies collective bargaining agreements and legal frameworks to resolve issues and support employee needs.
  • Problem Solving & Conflict Resolution: Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently with all levels of employees to identify challenges facilitate resolution and implement corrective actions.
  • Confidentiality & Record Management: Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information with discretion maintaining confidentiality in accordance with university policies and applicable privacy laws.
  • Case Management & Data Utilization: Proficient in using case management software to track enter and maintain comprehensive records and data related to employee accommodations and support services.
  • Effective Communication:Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally using a trauma-informed culturally competent approach that is sensitive to diverse audiences.
  • Policy Development & Marketing: Expertise in developing policies procedures and related marketing materials to promote services and ensure consistent messaging across the organization.
  • Critical Thinking & Analysis: Strong critical thinking skills to assess situations gather relevant information and provide actionable recommendations on complex employee relations and disability accommodation issues.
