St. Augustine Catholic High School Job Description Job Title: Athletic Director / PE Instructor Status: Part-time Exemption Status: Non-exempt Department/Location: St. Augustine Catholic High School / Tucson AZ Primary Function: Under the direction of the school principal is responsible for supporting the Diocese of Tucson in its mission to evangelize catechize and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The teacher shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received. (Eph. 4:1) Essential Duties and Responsibilities of this Ministerial Position:
- Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking acting and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church; a teacher may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Church.
- Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employees professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
- Gives evidence of lived Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of personal faith journey; strives to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
- Help build the Schools faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in and help plan School religious and service activities.
- Lead and participate in classroom prayer daily.
- Demonstrate effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to implement and achieve academic goals and objectives as adopted by the School along with a Catholic religious curriculum as articulated by the School.
- Under the direction of the President the Athletic Director is responsible for performing a variety of duties that pertain to coordinating and overseeing the athletic programs at St. Augustine Catholic High School.
- Oversees all athletics and sports events that take place in the name of St. Augustine Catholic High School.
- Makes sure that each sport is treated fairly and receives appropriate attention and funding.
- Ensures that all participants coaches and parents abide by the rules and regulations of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA). Also provides entry notification to AIA and contracts for all games.
- Approve schedules for all sports and ensure the AIA receives all St. Augustine scheduling information.
- Develops the budget for all extracurricular sports programs.
- Coordinates team scheduling manages game contracts and transportation to away events.
- Works with Administration to encourage and coordinate media coverage of the school teams and athletes and to coordinate athletic fund-raising activities in cooperation with school-wide development efforts.
- Recruits and hires coaches.
- Supervises all coaches which includes evaluating the performance of coaches aiding with media relations photo sessions sports introduction night and sports banquets.
- Work with Principal and Intervention Specialist to check and report eligibility of players (academics physical exams and other required forms)
- Maintain records of all athletes achievements to be used in presenting awards athletic letters and future selection to the schools Hall of Honor.
- Maintains appropriate memberships in state and local associations; attends district meetings.
- Supervises the design and publication of sports and poster team schedules athletic handbooks/manuals tournament brackets and printed directions to games.
- Manages athletic events hosted by St. Augustine Catholic High School.
- Works with the Facilities Coordinator to make sure that athletic facilities both indoor and field areas are clean safe and well-maintained.
- Coordinates athletic banquets and awards.
- Promote sportsmanship and assist the principal in coordination of the interscholastic program foster good character by teaching enforcing advocating and modeling the Six Pillars of Character as defined by the AIA and promote the AIA policy of Pursuing Victory With Honor and having those involved sign the AIA Code of Conduct.
- Coordinates all gate and concession activities and money reconciliation.
- Sets the agenda and presides at all coaches meetings.
- Acts as representative for St. Augustine Catholic High School to the AIA.
- Ensure proper payment is made to all sports officials or on-site events.
- Schedule all on-site and off-site facilities for use by athletic program.
- Arrange transportation meals and lodging for athletes to all off-site athletic events.
- Maintain oversee and order all athletic equipment and uniforms.
- Make report to the President in writing of any incidents of concern.
- All other duties as assigned by the President.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Required Activities: Walking sitting standing stooping reaching talking hearing carrying and keyboarding. Basic Qualifications: - Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church.
- Excellent communications skills verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
- Exercise courtesy to fellow employees coaches students and the general public.
- Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must at all times; ability to travel locally as required; weekend and extended hours may be required.
- Proficiency in computer technology to include word-processing and calculator.
- Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
- Ability to successfully pass a background criminal history and credit history check.
- Must be able to work nights.
Education and Experience: - A bachelors degree from an accredited institution is preferred. A degree in Education is preferred.
- Previous experience in coaching or as an Athletic Director is preferred.
- Certified by the State of Arizona as a Teacher
- Level I of the Diocesan Ministry Certification
Other/Preferred Skills: - Working knowledge of all Arizona and Diocese of Tucson Catholic School sports regulations
- Basic First-Aid Certification
