Job Description

MRI Technologist

About Facility:

o 2001 Vail Ave. Charlotte NC 28207

o Licensed Beds: 244

ED: 16 beds

ICU: 20 beds

Progressive: 40 beds

No Trauma designation

o Facility offers X-Ray CT Ultrasound MRI Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine with Radiology Nursing support

o TJC Stroke accredited

o Radius rule: Travelers permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit

Department Information:

o Inpatient Census is typically 100% capacity - 224

o Department performs an average of 23 studies/day

more during the week less on weekends

o Minimum Years of Experience required 1 year

o Will you accept a first-time traveler Yes

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

o Department will serve ED Inpatient Observation and Outpatient patients

o Department will care for a large population of medical device patients

o Will perform cases with anesthesia as needed.

o Department does not provide cardiac imaging

Required License National Certification Certs (BLS ACLS etc.) or other position specific requirements such as Drivers License and/or Insurance:

o ARRT(R) or NMTCB ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT

o BLS

o NC Licensure is not required

Skills required:

o Examines requests and verifies orders on each patient. Questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam or contacts ordering provider when there are discrepancies.

o Properly identify (Using two patient identifiers) and assist patients while offering a . ief explanation of the procedures. Prepares patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documents.

o Interviews patients for a complete medical history. Reviews in-patients ER and outpatients EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history

o Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning of exam until completion of dictated results.

o Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols.

o Evaluates technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed.

o Performs basic patient care functions. Informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patients condition. Initiates life support measures for patients when necessary.

o Performs all invasive procedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens isolation and infection control policies and procedures.

o Practices principle of radiation safety for self employees patients and family members.

o Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease.

o Adheres to the hospital fire and safety procedures.

o Operates radiology computer system to include entering orders and charging procedures/supplies. Documents contrast administration in the MAR.

o Assists other medical personnel such as anesthesia when performing exams or services in conjunction with a MRI scan.

o Maintains knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients while in and around magnetic fields

Support within the Department:

o Guest Services/Transport for Inpatient Observation ED patients

o Tech assistant on overnight shifts

o EMR: EPIC

o RIS: Epic Radiant

o PACS: Philips iSite

o Department specific Equipment:

1 GE 1.5 SIGNA Artist 450W

Floating: If yes where

o No

Orientation (facility and unit):

o Administrative onboarding (Epic eLearnings policy review etc.) 1 day

o 2 days to 1 week departmental (as needed)

Scheduling:

o Weekend rotation: EOW

o No call

o Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays

o RTO: Resource Team approval
