Faculty Position in Engineering Design The School of Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB ) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-earning position at the rank of Instructor. Appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor is also possible for exceptional candidates with appropriate experience and qualifications. Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in any discipline of Engineering or a related field or a masters degree in a relevant field plus substantial professional design experience. Preference will be given to applicants with prior college-level teaching experience and/or design development and prototyping experience. Responsibilities of this position including teaching design-related courses as well as assisting with student advising and program administration for the Engineering Design undergraduate program: . The School of Engineering The UAB School of Engineering provides high-quality hands-on education to the next generation of engineers while improving lives through groundbreaking research and community engagement. The School has approximately 50 full-time faculty members and enrolls more than 800 undergraduates across 6 undergraduate majors in four departments. Our undergraduate programs emphasize practical hands-on learning complemented by a guaranteed internship. Over 600 graduate students pursue a range of programs including traditional on-campus M.S./Ph.D. pathways as well as online . degrees for working professionals. The School has close ties to companies in Birmingham which serves as a regional hub for the construction materials power and biotech industries. We are also connected to our community through activities including the City as Classroom component of the UAB Blazer Core Curriculum the many student design projects sponsored by local clients and neighborhood improvements designed by our faculty as part of the UAB Grand Challenge ( ). Engineering Design Program The BS in Engineering Design program trains students to be a design engineer with an integrated skills set across product development project management and engineering problem solving to create functional and elegant products and processes. In the program students learn to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to define a real-world problem and design a solution that benefits people using human-centered design concepts. The curriculum includes three or four semester long team design projects where students apply human centered design principles advanced prototyping techniques and project management tools to design a device app or process that solves a problem for a client. Required Qualifications
