Job Description

Who We Are:

At TPL were a team of outdoor advocates who believe in connecting everyone to the outdoors. As an ethos we believe access to the outdoors is a fundamental human need and essential to our health and well-being. Were committed to creating more places that bring us outsideparks trails playgrounds and public landsand making them available and welcoming to everyone everywhere regardless of ZIP code. We also understand that land has meaning; it tells the story of our history. Thats why through our Black History and Culture initiativewere working to preserve sites that more fully represent the Black American experience; and were an ally and partner to Tribal and Indigenous communities working in partnership to reconnect them with their ancestral lands.

One hundred million people including 28 million children dont have nearby access to a park within ten minutes of their home. Were determined to change this outdoor equity gapand as a result nine million people and counting now have access because of our work. We have miles to go and a plan to get there. Position Summary:
Work with the Chicago program team to support ongoing initiatives and efforts.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist with outreach and communications with community-based organizations in the Riverdale community area
  • Work with Program Director to advance strategic planning for community land trust (CLT) by:
    • Attending meetings with the CLT
    • Creating maps to illustrate key features of the CLT area (land ownership proposed infrastructure or other investments both public and private regulatory information such as zoning districts land use natural/sensitive areas ward and other elected official boundaries)
    • Documenting stated vision and goals of the CLT and drafting potential next steps for fundraising and implementation
    • Researching other similar CLTs to create best practices memo regarding governance fundraising etc
  • Provide support and assistance to CLT regarding 134th Place Open Space including researching best practices for Cultural Management Plan
  • Assist with outreach and communications with community-based organizations and residents in the vicinity of the Major Taylor Trail
  • Work with State Director to identify and conduct research on state funding sources for conservation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Strong commitment to TPLs shared values (Belonging Creativity Collaboration Impact and Hope) to effectively work across the organization.
  • Experience with park interpretation at the state federal or local level.
  • Public program development and delivery
  • Connected to communities of the far South Side of Chicago
Compensation:
Trust for Public Land is a hybrid work environment and this role will ideally be located near a Trust for Public Land office. As a part-time employee you will be eligible for sick pay. We offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience; the anticipated hiring range for this position is $25/hr.
