Position Description:

The Operations Managers (OM) role is to act as the primary oversight on multiple projects of the Project Manager and his/her responsibilities. The OM is responsible for the financial success of their projects. The OM is responsible to ensure the project teams are using all Company project management and financial assessment tools and with risk management processes and procedures on their projects.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Environmental Safety Engineering Construction Management or related field.
  • 10 years of construction operations management experience.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • CPR Certified.
  • Strong understanding of federal state and local reporting requirements and regulations.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in MS Office skills including Word Excel Power Point and Outlook.
  • Possess the passion for construction necessary to generate a consistent positive work environment and foster collaborative teams with varying styles and backgrounds.
  • Must be able to work independently and with other team members.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and ability to exhibit consistent and competent judgement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to be highly organized.
  • High attention to detail while working under deadlines and managing multiple priorities. Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow up skills.
  • Must possess the ability to strategically allocate resources and effectively manage assets.
  • Must possess technical understandings of architectural civil structural mechanical electrical and plumbing disciplines.
  • Experienced in construction layout blueprint and shop drawing reading.
  • Proven management capabilities having demonstrated the ability to delegate tasks and motivate direct reports.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced deadline driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Extensive experience overseeing and implementing safety programs.
  • Must understand and be able to lead construction specific safety initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of ProjectSight Construction Management Software preferred.
  • Scheduling software experience preferred.

Essential Duties:

  • The OM oversees multiple projects through the use of formal and informal progress and performance review and monitoring tools and performs regular Quality Control and other audits as outlined in the Company Manuals. Reviews utilizing risk and financial management tools helps the OM stay in touch with the staff communicate expectations offer observations and provide ideas to help the team manage each project effectively.
  • Reporting project status (financial safety schedule design and quality) to the District Manager is the responsibility of the OM.
  • Serve as a resource to their projects in mentoring training and developing personnel in all aspects of their careers.
  • Responsible for making decisions about the type and quantity of salaried resources needed to manage and supervise a project.
  • Evaluation of promotions pay increases bonuses and HP Unit distribution is the joint responsibility of the OM and General Superintendent.
  • Develop and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with Hensel Phelpss owners and clients thereby helping to resolve issues on projects and identify potential future opportunities.
  • Takes the lead when needed in procurement efforts from an operational standpoint. This includes preparing technical proposals reviewing estimates and managing a bid to support a procurement effort are other aspects of the OMs responsibility.

Further salaried employees (project engineers and above) also receive either a vehicle or vehicle allowance in accordance with Hensel Phelps policies. Based on position location a cost of living adjustment (COLA) may also be included (subject to periodic review and adjustment).
