The Advanced Staff Engineer- Electromagnetics will perform in-depth electromagnetics design which is core to generator/motor technology for aerospace applications using analytic and finite element tools. In this role you will support the development of new products from concept to production with minimum supervision. You will plan drive & coordinate critical development activities: requirement definition design testing & verification.
At GE Aerospace in Dayton OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft the latest military platforms and SiC technology to name a few. Plus if you like hands-on work there is also a 155000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW an EMI chamber an electronics lab a rapid build prototype lab and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the electromagnetic design and analysis of electric machines (motors and generators synchronous permanent magnet induction and so on).
- Large PM generator development
- CCA generator development
- Generator development for ground applications
- B&P tech support
- Power generation IP (intellectual property) support
- Hybrid generator development support
- Support system integration efforts.
- Contribute to production support activities e.g. cost reduction and engineering productivity troubleshooting customer units etc.
- Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams mentor young engineers in the organization.
- PM generator DP (design practice) support
- New type of generator development for potential NTI projects
- Generator mechanical support including thermal
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in electromagnetic analysis of electric motors or generators
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the design or analysis of electric motors or generators in a production environment

Desired Characteristics
- Masters degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 10 years of related professional work experience
- Doctors Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on electric motor or generator electromagnetic design from an accredited college or university
- Transformer and inductor design experience
- Experience with Ansoft / Ansys suite of analysis tools
- Ability to design for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) thermal and manufacturing considerations
- Technical background and experience in Power Electronics or Motor Control
- Experience in designing aerospace products
- Strong technical aptitude including applicable engineering tools and systems
- Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
