Primary Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities Purpose of Job: Works with geology faculty to help maintain departmental geological collections and lab materials. This position will work with geology faculty to maintain and preserve specimens organize collection stores and process new incoming material. Supports faculty in professional research initiatives as needed. Assists with geology program related initiatives as needed. Also involved with educational outreach. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with beginning semester program initiatives for the geology program. Assist with outreach efforts on campus (example: Earth Science Week) or with local organizations (example: CDNC ). Interact and provide mentorship to geology majors and encourage students in their academic endeavors. Redirect students to seek out assistance from faculty members if they are having difficulties (such as in classes housing or finances). Assist with any cleaning/organization needed in rooms/facilities used by the geology program and assist other students as needed. Assist with labs (prep) as needed. Assist with organization of math/chemistry/biology study sessions for geology program students Coordinate with geology faculty and prepare tours of geology facilities for potential geology majors and their families. Supervision: Direct supervision from Dr. Elizabeth Measures for day to day instruction. Dr. Measures will also act as the Faculty Mentor within the Lobos LEAD Program. At least one self-performance evaluation and supervisor performance evaluation to be conducted at least once per appointment cycle. Lobos LEAD Program: The mission of Lobos LEAD is to provide students of Sul Ross State University the opportunity to take on leadership roles and employment opportunities that will translate into real world marketable skills career preparation and personal success. Initial pilot funding provided by the Title III LoboTrack to Success in STEM ( LTS ) grant an initiative to engage the talent motivation energy and aspirations from within our university community to address the identified national imperative to attract retain and graduate increased numbers of Hispanic and low-income students. All other duties as assigned unique to the department. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others. This position is security sensitive.
