Supervising Fish and Wildlife Biologist (District Fish Biologist)Job Description:
Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregons fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.
We are hiring for one full-time permanent position located in Central Point Oregon.
What you will do:
You will direct and implement all fish management activities within the Upper Rogue portion of the Rogue Watershed District. Specific areas of responsibility include habitat protection habitat restoration inventory of habitat and fishery resources harvest management planning utilization of hatchery resources coordination of volunteer activities under the Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program (STEP) program supervision of district staff and public relations.
This position requires a Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training certification be obtained within six months of hire.

What we are looking for:
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of biological experience performing studies research or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program. At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a fish or wildlife program such as researching and analyzing data conducting investigations applying pertinent laws and regulations or coordinating and monitoring project activities; ANDA Bachelors degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Bachelors degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework
-OR-
Three additional years of biological experience performing studies research or resource management activities in a fisheries or wildlife program.
One year of experience must have included leadwork or supervisory duties.
Equivalency Notes:
A Masters degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Masters degree in biological/ecological sciences will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.

Strong leadership and supervisory background and to demonstrate effective leadership and supervision including oversight of daily activities and training setting priorities and ensuring completion of tasks by holding staff accountable whilesupporting career development
Excellent interpersonal skills and conflict resolution ability to communicate effectively maintain good working relations and exhibit a professional demeanor are critically important
Excellent communication to clearly convey plans expectations and relevant information to staff. Ability to communicate on behalf of ODFW with partners and the public
Demonstrates a strong commitment interest and desire to serve the working relationship with Oregons federally recognized Tribes. Provides leadership and fosters positive working relationships with tribal partners including a variety of activities agreements contracts and shared commitments/goals
Experience in maintaining consistent communication with partners including but not limited to Tribes BLM USFS NOAA Fisheries USFWS state agencies local governments watershed councils and volunteer and STEP groups
Skilled at working with the public legislators and state federal and tribal agencies using persuasive diplomacy to coordinate activities and resolve conflicts. Must display a good sense of professionalism when dealing with the public and volunteers and represent the Agency positively
Knowledge and working experience in fisheries biology; particularly hatchery management harvest management and habitat restoration and protection.
Experience with various communication media and approaches to sharing information to the public
Experience developing presentations and presenting and speaking to groups.
Knowledge of databases database programs and mapping skills
Experience working on agency committees to develop staff proposals or agency positions
Experience performing data analysis using a variety of statistical tools
Experience developing and implementing project proposals monitoring budgets and tracking expenditures

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
