Part-Time Dentist

Woodburn OREGON - MACLAREN OREGON YOUTH CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Working Schedule: 30 hours a week 4 days a week.

Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is seeking a permanent part-time Dentist to perform all medically necessary dental services and procedures for all youth at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility (MYCF) and youth residing at the Oak Creek facility and the Jackie Winters Transition Program (JWTP). Travel to other OYA facilities to provide services may also be required. You will ensure that an electronic dental record is established on all these youth. As the dentist you will oversee the priority list of dental treatment needs for the youth provide dental services in a culturally informed manner and using a trauma-informed approach.

In addition to providing dental services and procedures at MYCF Oak Creek and JWTP you will need to provide dental services for youth from other close-custody facilities.

YOUR ROLE AS OYA DENTIST:

  • Performs all dental care services and procedures using a trauma-informed and culturally appropriate approach and be sensitive and aware of the fact that youth from marginalized populations and under serviced communities that may have poor oral health and need more dental services to restore oral health.
  • Provide initial oral exams on all youth when they arrive at intake at MYCF and Oak Creek.
  • Performs all phases of general oral and dental medicine including operative endodontics exodontics and periodontics services as well as limited oral surgery.
  • Performs oral examinations diagnose and develop a plan of treatment to correct oral health problems for each youth.
  • Maintains a dental record on all youth committed to MYCF and Oak Creek including the JWTP program and youth from other OYA facilities who go to MacLaren for dental services or seen on-site at a facility
  • Triage assess and treat youth with acute dental needs communicated via medi-grams.
  • Assists others in the dental office with various processes and procedures.
  • Provides oversight and clinical supervision of the dental assistant.
  • Coordinates with community dental providers to ensure treatment/operative procedures are completed for youth.
  • Promotes a preventive dental program which includes preventive care and plaque control methods.

A current Dentists license issued by the Oregon Board of Dentistry at the time of appointment.

Relocation Reimbursement:

OYA is prepared to offer relocation reimbursement to the successful candidate. This will come as a reimbursement and follow State of Oregon Department of Administrative Services Policy 40.055.20 which allows for reimbursement of expenses with receipts within the following categories (limits per category) not to exceed $3000.00.

Working Conditions:
This position is located in a close custody facility which requires as a primary responsibility strict adherence by each employee to security measures at all times to assure custody control and supervision of youth. Security and control take priority over all responsibilities. The employee in this position must be constantly vigilant and aware of potential breaches to safety or security and is required to initiate immediate and appropriate response to such breaches.

In keeping with our mission OYA will conduct a criminal record check per OAR 416 Division 800 a driving record background check and a vulnerable population abuse and neglect check. Information obtained about an individual is confidential. An individual who refuses to consent to a criminal records/background check shall be disqualified from consideration in the position for which you applied. All applicants are subject to additional pre-employment check(s) such as fingerprint based on criminal records check pre-employment drug screening and/or education verification as required for the position.
