The Graphic Designer / Multimedia Producer is a member of the Community Relations Department and plays an integral role in its work advancing YVC and its mission through its communications public relations website design and publications efforts. Reporting to the Director of Community Relations the Graphic Designer / Multimedia Producer produces original work for a variety of design projects including but not limited to advertising marketing materials video productions print publications posters brochures logo design and more. The Graphic Designer / Multimedia Producer ensures projects follow YVC branding guidelines and advises college clients on graphic standards and proper logo usage. This position will ensure professional high quality work that is produced in a timely manner with positive customer service.


This is a full-time in person classified position.

Essential Tasks

Reporting to the Director of Community Relations this position will do the following:

  • Conceptualize design illustrate layout and produce visually appealing graphic projects for print and web including advertising marketing materials major print publications brochures posters signage banners logos PowerPoint templates postcards stationary packages and webpages.

  • Conceive and produce multimedia/video projects for use in the colleges marketing and communications efforts. This will include research script development storyboard illustration titles and audio/video editing for videos such as student/alumni/faculty profiles overviews of academic programs and student services and other video projects.

  • Serve as the colleges main photographer/videographer on photo shoots; operate digital cameras and capture professional quality images; manipulate and color balance photos/video.

  • Manage in collaboration with the Director the colleges brand guidelines to present a positive consistent image of YVC.

  • Ensure adherence to production schedules quality standards and project specifications.

  • Advise campus clients with regard to the practical applications of graphic design and college brand standards specifically ensuring consistent and proper usage of YVC logos colors typography and other brand elements

  • Carry out pre-production preparation of all print projects including selecting paper stock ink color and consulting with vendors on printing techniques for finished products. Packages fonts photographs and graphics per vendor specifications. Also responsible for press checks and color proofing.

  • Work cooperatively with the YVC Print Shop to assure efficient and appropriate scheduling and work flow of print projects from Community Relations.

  • Work cooperatively with the colleges web designer to assist in development and production of web graphics and content as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in graphic design or closely related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent training plus professional experience working as a graphic designer/similar role.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud applications including InDesign PhotoShop Illustrator Premiere After Effects and LightRoom.
  • Experience operating a drone is preferred and/or willingness to learn how to operate a drone for capturing photos/video.
Note:Candidates will be required to present a portfolio of their professional work at the time of interview.

ABILITY TO:
  • Manipulate digital images photographs audio video and illustrations using a variety of computer software techniques.
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills including an attention to detail develop timetables meet deadlines and balance multiple projects.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills in order to achieve the desired results for a project.
  • Working independently as well as being a positive contributor to a team.
  • Refine and enhance technical skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis.
  • Understand best practices related to graphic design and multimedia production and how to align those with the colleges brand guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written formats.
  • Accept feedback and alternative ideas related to creative design work in order to ensure open communication between the designer and colleagues.
  • Proofread projects to edit for style and grammar using YVC standards online resources and published style guides.
  • Work effectively under stress and while handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work with faculty staff and/or students who do not have a background in graphic design/multimedia production.
  • Interpret and follow YVC policies and procedures as well as Washington state rules and regulations.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Adobe Creative Cloud applications including but not limited to InDesign Illustrator Photoshop Premiere After Effects and LightRoom.
  • Best practices in graphic design and video/multimedia production.
  • Accessibility principles as related to graphic design and video/multimedia production including the creation of accessible PDFs.
  • The colleges mission and a commitment to student success diversity and sharing ideas.
