About the role
The Senior DERMS Operator is a pivotal position within Essential Energy (EE) responsible for overseeing and managing the integration and operation of distributed energy resources (DER) such as batteries and solar systems. This role ensures seamless communication between EE and these systems facilitating dynamic connections which allow to unlock spare network capacity. The Senior DERMS Operator will be instrumental in setting up bi-directional communications with new customer systems providing real-time monitoring and control and addressing operational issues that arise. This role is crucial to allow EE to move forward to a smart grid where DER assets are optimised to delivery their full potential for the benefit of customers and the network. The role offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of innovative energy management solutions and the energy transition.
This role will be preferably based within the Essential Energy footprint with the ability to work from home in a hybrid work environment
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and operate distributed energy resources (DER) such as batteries and solar systems through a DERMS solution.
- Ensure seamless communication between EE and DER systems facilitating their connection to EE internal systems
- Provide real-time monitoring and reporting on DER systems performance
- Troubleshoot and addressing operational issues
- Provide higher-level escalation support as DERMS system operators
- Engage with Original Equipment Manufactures and technologies providers on establishing connectivity and managing operational relationships
- Set up and configure new customer systems on the EE utility server
- engage in internal conversations to enhance and improve DERMS capabilities
About You
We are seeking a proactive and adaptable individual who is eager to take on a new and challenging role within Essential Energy. You should have a strong background in the energy sector with a particular focus on solar systems and batteries. Your ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies will be crucial as this role involves managing and operating distributed energy resources (DER) and integrating them into the smart grid. You should be comfortable working in a dynamic environment troubleshooting issues and providing high-level support. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential as you will be working closely with various teams and customers to ensure seamless operations. About your skills
- Strong technical skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment rectifying system issues with urgent priorities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to manage diverse and complex issues customer interactions and complaints resolution.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or demonstrated capability through past employment experience and/or relevant qualifications.
Desired Experience
- Experience with DER (Distributed Energy Resources) systems.
- Familiarity with installation of DER assets such as solar and batteries.
- A good understanding of grid management and the integration of renewable energy sources.
- Experience with smart grid technologies and energy storage systems.
- Knowledge of demand management operations and practices.
- Familiarity with original equipment manufacturer (OEMs) DER systems.
- Extensive experience in operating and managing control systems.
- Understanding of the CSIP-AUS and IEEE 2030.5 communication protocols.
- Experience in operating Virtual Power Plant portfolios.
