MAIN STREET AREA ACTION PLAN CONVENOR

TITLE: Main Street Area Action Plan Convenor

DEPARTMENT:Administration

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

DIRECT REPORTS: Engagement Coordinator

STATUS: Full-time (3-year funded)

STARTING SALARY: $67000 per year



ABOUT THE COMPANY

Main Street Project (MSP) is a community health centre with a mandate to address the social determinants of health which give rise to issues of addiction physical and mental health issues and homelessness. MSP uses housing-first and harm reduction principles to provide a safe respectful and accessible place for individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the community. Since 1972 MSP has been providing a range of services to Winnipegs most marginalized residents including emergency shelter and nutrition services drug and alcohol withdrawal management services health advocacy and support case management services housing support services food bank services and a mobile community outreach program.

JOB SUMMARY

The Community Convenor will lead the Main Street Area Action plan facilitate and nurture connections collaboration and communication among stakeholders within the area to advance the shared objectives.

The Convenor will organize meetings events and activities (including workshops and social gatherings) as well as be responsible for developing a budget for implementing the community action plan. The Convenor may serve as the public face of the community representing its interests to external stakeholders such as the City of Winnipeg partners or the media.


The Main Street Area Action plan is a community-led plan formed by over 130 community stakeholders to support the revitalization of the Main and Higgins Thunderbird house and surrounding areas. As the plan is developed the Convenors role will be to action the plan and move it forward while bringing all those who call the area home work or community the opportunity to be actively involved.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Main Street Area Action Partnership Coordination and Community Engagement

Develops and implements in collaboration with community partners key organizations Thunderbird House Board that informs the direction and development of programming services infrastructure within the area and identifies opportunities for improvements and growth of programming and services and collaboration

Facilitates and attends community meetings to foster relationship building and collaboration and promotes the plans mission vision and values in providing action in the community. This includes strengthening relationships with partners identifying and addressing improvements to working together and tangible community improvements

Plans coordinates and arranges all aspects of administrative logistical and protocol requirements for advisory group meetings focus groups training and community meetings as required


Plan Development and Impact

Work to set tangible results-based outcomes and impacts for the community plan

Develop funding asks for the work to move all areas of the plan forward

Ensure the community voice of the people that call the area home are at the core of the work

Connects and consults with Indigenous elders traditional teachers and knowledge keepers to assist the organization in supporting Survivors on their healing journey


Promotion and Awareness

Promotes all related programs and services and assists in developing public awareness campaigns in collaboration with the organizations in the community

Organizes and promotes events initiatives and activities that raise awareness of and bring action to the community.

Serves as a resource for community members and service providers seeking information training and services pertaining to the Main Street Area Action Plan

Facilitates the preparation writing and translation of key promotional material and awareness tools increasing accessibility to a wide audience


Staff Management and Administration

Collects and analyzes data to compile reports required by funding bodies and organizational needs


Other Duties

Performs additional duties as assigned by the Program Support Manager or designate



QUALIFICATIONS

Diploma in human/ social services City Planning Community development or related field would be an asset. A combination of education training volunteerism and lived experience will be considered.

Experience working with people who have experienced trauma effects of colonization and residential schools with sensitivity using a strength-based approach

Knowledge and/or lived experience of issues impacting homelessness mental health and addiction

Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action UNDRIP MMIWG calls to action.

Knowledge of utilizing a gender-based plus analysis inclusive of 2SLGBTQQIA Women and Girls

Demonstrated incorporating Indigenous culture protocols and practices into programs and services

Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering successful training sessions facilitating meetings as well as developing and implementing organizational procedures and protocols

Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners

Demonstrated ability to lead energize and supervise including the ability to co-ordinate many people with varying skills abilities and life experience

Ability to accept and respond to constructive criticism and feedback in a cooperative and respectful manner

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work flexible hours

Strong computer technology skills including use of Microsoft office: Word Outlook PowerPoint and Excel

CPR and First Aid Certification

Subject to criminal/ prior contact and Child abuse Registry checks

Must be vaccinated against COVID 19
