General Definition of Work
Performs technical/manual work in the maintenance care and cleaning of school buildings and related work as assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Head Custodian and/or lead technician for discipline where assigned.
Qualification Requirements
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience.

Essential Functions
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. Reasonable requirements may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Assist in maintenance as needed to include electrical carpentry HVAC refrigeration plumbing or grounds departments.
Clean school building interior and exterior as well as grounds.
Scrub and clean toilets mirrors wash basins urinals sinks and bathroom floors.
Remove trash from rooms and buildings and put in container and dumpster.
Fill tissue towel soap and other dispensers.
Secure windows classroom doors and main building entrances daily.
Clean drinking fountains.
Dust furniture walls woodwork windowsills and blinds.
Wash windows walls woodwork and baseboards.
Assemble set up and move furniture as needed.
Clean storage rooms unload and store supplies and deliveries.
Trim shrubs and mulch grounds.
Light duty painting.
Repair minor plumbing issues change light bulbs and replace ceiling tiles.
Vacuum and shampoo carpeted floors.
Clean and inspect cleaning equipment.
Perform related tasks as required or directed by a supervisor.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of mechanical electrical carpentry plumbing grounds maintenance cleaning methods materials and equipment.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to read.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force.
Work frequently standing walking sitting speaking or hearing and using hands to finger handle or feel and occasionally requires climbing or balancing stooping kneeling crouching or crawling reaching with hands and arms pushing or pulling lifting and repetitive motions.
Work has standard vision requirements.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately loudly or quickly.
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data visual inspection involving small defects and /or small parts using of measuring devices assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length operating machines operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
Work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts exposure to fumes or airborne particles exposure to extreme cold (non-weather) exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and exposure to vibration.
Work is generally in a loud noisy location (e.g. grounds maintenance heavy traffic).
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid North Carolina drivers license.
Desire Certifications
Type II EPA Certified arborist.
Certified irrigation specialist.
Certified nursery attendant.
Pesticide license.
