The Dual Training Grant is a State-funded program by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education that can provide you with up to $6000 per year toward your education. Dual training is an earn-while-you-learn approach where you develop skills through paid on-the-job training while earning an industry-recognized credential - benefiting both you and Lake Region Healthcare!

How It Works

Lake Region Healthcare employees that are pursuing or intend to pursue eligible degrees with partnered training providers during the 2025-2026 academic year are welcome to apply. Awarded employees (trainees) will receive up to $6000 in tuition assistance for the 2025-2026 school year. In addition to tuition assistance trainees will also partake in paid structured on-the-job training within their chosen field. This is a great opportunity to advance your career and education with Lake Region Healthcare!

Eligible Degrees and Training Providers

We have partnered with Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M-State) for the 2025-2026 academic year. Funding is available to award up to three recipients. Employees pursuing a degree with M-State in the following areas are eligible to apply for the 2025 Dual Training Grant:

Licensed Practical Nurse
Medical Laboratory Technician
Radiologic Technologist
Registered Nurse

Compensation

Trainees will receive their current rate of pay when completing the paid on-the-job training.

Optional Dual Trainee Welcome Session with Minnesota Office of Higher Education (virtual): August 7 2025 at 2:00PM

Criteria

  1. Be a current Lake Region Healthcare employee in good standing.
  2. Be in pursuit of an eligible degree (LPN MLT Rad Tech or RN) with M-State. Current or new students are eligible to apply. Proof of enrollment is preferred to be submitted at time of application. Otherwise proof of enrollment will be required within one week from award notice date.
  3. Upload a current resume and complete all application questions.
  4. Be able to commit to completing a specified number of hours ofpaid on-the-job training. Hours vary depending on the degree and scheduling will be flexible to accommodate school schedule.
  5. If awarded Lake Region Healthcare will issue payment directly to M-State. Note: if tuition costs exceed $6000 for the academic year the trainee is responsible for the remaining amount and will receive a bill from M-State. Trainees are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the MN Dream Act (for undocumented Minnesotans). Trainees are also encouraged to explore additional grant and scholarship options to offset any additional costs.
  6. If you are experiencing any of the following barriers please contact HR as you may be eligible for a different grant that can provide additional supportive services (including transportation housing stability and childcare):
    • Inability to access stable housing
    • Limited English proficiency
    • Income at or below 200% Federal Poverty Guidelines
