About Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY)

Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) is the leading provider of services for homeless youth in the DC region. Through the holistic integration of our Pillars of Opportunitysafe homes life skills and workforce developmentwe meet the unique needs of young people experiencing homelessness.

For over 45 years SBY has implemented innovative interventions aimed at ending youth homelessness. Today our programs in Washington DC and Prince Georges County MD reach more than 6500 runaway homeless abused and neglected youth and their families each year.

About the CARES Project

The SBY Community Approaches to Rapid Engagement Services (CARES) is a new initiative developed in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Office of the Attorney General (OAG) and the Department of Human Services (DHS). CARES supports families experiencing intra-family violence who are seeking help with conflict resolution communication and problem-solving. The program provides intensive short-term services for 3-6 months including respite care for the adolescent at Bruce House.

Position Summary

The CARES Family Intervention Specialist provides intensive community-based case management to youth and their families. The primary goals are to strengthen family functioning ensure the young person can safety return to living with their family and promote long-term family stability. The Family Intervention Specialist works closely with families for 3-6 months and delivers services in homes schools and community settings.


Qualifications

Experience providing case management or direct services to youth and families preferably in community-based residential or youth-serving settings

Strong ability to build trust and rapport with young people and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds

Ability to navigate community resources and public systems (e.g. schools juvenile justice mental health)

Skilled in conflict resolution crisis de-escalation and problem-solving in fast-paced or emotionally charged environments

Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends based on family needs

Valid drivers license and reliable transportation

Ability to pass required background checks and provide documentation as needed

Commitment to racial equity youth empowerment and the mission of Sasha Bruce Youthwork


Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct intake and needs assessments with youth and families to determine service needs strengths and barriers.

Develop and implement individualized service plans in collaboration with families and CARES clinicians focusing on family stabilization goal setting and connection to community supports.

Provide intensive strength-based case management by maintaining consistent weekly contact with families offering guidance resources and encouragement to support progress toward identified goals.

Link families to community resources such as mental health services medical care educational supports employment programs legal aid parenting support and housing assistance.

Advocate on behalf of youth and families within systems including schools courts social services and healthcare ensuring access to appropriate and timely services.

Coordinate with Bruce House staff and provide oversight during respite stays to ensure continuity of care goal alignment and support of daily routines and structured activities.

Facilitate and participate in family meetings to support problem-solving communication and the development of healthy conflict-resolution skills.

Engage family membersincluding biological extended and chosen familyto create a network of support that fosters long-term stability and youth well-being.

Support youth in daily goal achievement and skill development including routines emotional regulation strategies and community engagement.

Plan and facilitate educational and recreational activities that promote youth development and self-esteem.

Document all case activity family contacts referrals and progress notes in a timely and accurate manner.

Participate in required annual training required by licensing agency or by Program Director or Clinical Director.

Participate in regular supervision and staff meetings as assigned by Program Director.

Keep all required clearances up to date.
