BNLHS Athletic Director
Job Purpose: The BNL Athletic Director plans coordinates implements supervises and evaluates all aspects of the interscholastic high school athletic program.
Athletic Information: Work with the BNL Administration team to showcase BNL Athletics. Athletic Administrative Assistant. Two Assist Athletic Directors. HHC Conference. 8 IHSAA State Championships.
Athletic Department Duties
- Disseminate collect and maintain all required student-athlete paperwork i.e. physicals insurance transportation permission forms etc.
- Disseminate IHSAA materials and enforce IHSAA rules and regulations including player eligibility.
- Confirm student-athlete eligibility before the season begins and monitor eligibility throughout the season.
- Work with coaches teachers and administrators to ensure student-athletes follow the Athletic Code of Conduct. Administer consequences in a fair and consistent manner when needed.
- Develop a schedule for all varsity junior and freshman athletic events.
- Provide officials for all home competitions.
- Collect rosters and prepare sports programs.
- Work with the Athletic Trainer and the School Nurse to ensure the health and safety of student-athletes.
- Work with the Director of Transportation to schedule transportation to and from events.
- Responsible for the development and oversight of the Athletic Department budget.
- Approve fundraisers for the different athletic teams.
- Maintain an inventory of all athletic equipment and uniforms.
- Oversight of athletic equipment storage.
- Evaluate all athletic facilities and equipment on an annual basis. Prioritize needs and recommend maintenance capital improvements and purchasing to the administration.
- Schedule and supervise summer sports clinics.
- Schedule and organize a Fall Winter and Spring Sports Banquet and a Senior Athlete Recognition Banquet.
- Schedule and supervise the Senior Recognition game for all sports.
- Coordinate the ordering of letter jackets letters chevrons award patches etc. in a timely manner.
- Represent BNL High School at HHC Conference IIAAA and IHSAA meetings.
- Maintain BNL Hall of Fame. Develop recognition of graduates who continue their athletic careers in college.
- Conduct monthly Student Athletic Leadership Team Meetings.
- Serve as liaison between the booster groups coaches and school administration.
- Maintain relationships with middle elementary and community youth sports programs.
- Develop and maintain a relationship with local media outlets. Work with local media to market BNL sports.
- Provide a channel through which students parents and community members may express their concerns about an athletic program.
- Mediate conflicts between coaches and athletes coaches and parents coaches and teachers etc.
- Troubleshoot the day-to-day operation of the high school athletic program.
- Develop athletic policies as needed and communicate these policies to all concerned.
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Building Principal.
Coaching Personnel Responsibilities
- Actively recruits qualified candidates for all BNL High School athletics.
- Coordinate the selection process when hiring head varsity coaching positions i.e. schedule interviews screen references prepare questions etc.
- Make recommendations for all coaching positions to the Building Principal.
- Serves as a mentor to all new coaches.
- Responsible for certification of the coaching staff in adherence with local and State guidelines.
- Responsible for the orientation of all coaches regarding local policies and expectations conference guidelines and IHSAA regulations.
- Responsible for ensuring that all varsity coaches are members of their respective coaches organizations.
- Complete an evaluation and conduct a conference with head varsity coaches at each seasons conclusion.
Game Day Operations
- Coordinate using all athletic facilities for games practices and other events.
- Ensure all athletic facilities are prepared for games practices and other events.
- Secure appropriate auxiliary personnel for all home competitions i.e. concession stand workers ticket sales security chain crew announcers starters etc.
- Provide supervision for home competitions.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Hold a Bachelor of Arts in Education Sports Management or a related field.
- Recommended Building Level Administrator License
- Member of the IIAAA and NIAAA organizations & pursuing LTI Courses
- At least three (3) years of coaching experience or evidence of experience with high school athletics.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Organizational skills. Communication skills. Proficient in the use of technology.
