Environmental Compliance Specialist
Location: Calera AL
Contract- 6 Months
Client- Alabama Power
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring that all operations comply with environmental regulations at the federal state and local levels. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical technical and interpersonal skills along with the physical ability to conduct field inspections in challenging environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor compliance with environmental regulations including air and water quality waste management and hazardous materials handling
Conduct audits and site assessments to identify potential environmental risks and recommend corrective actions
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable laws and proactively implement necessary compliance strategies
Prepare reports and maintain documentation to support regulatory submissions and inspections
Participate in environmental training permitting and compliance programs
Engage with internal teams and external agencies to ensure continuous improvement in environmental performance
Support fabrication of simple mechanical systems as needed for environmental operations
Operate equipment such as trailers and utilize lifting gear to move materials and instruments
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Environmental Science Environmental Engineering or a related discipline (preferred)
Working knowledge of environmental laws and permitting processes (EPA state and local agencies)
Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook Word and Excel
Familiarity with environmental management software and data analytics tools
Certifications such as Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) are a plus
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements:
Ability to climb stairs and work at elevated heights (100 feet)
Capable of lifting and pulling up to 50 lbs of equipment using ropes or lifting gear
Ability to tow and back trailers
Comfortable working in hot or physically demanding work environments
