Department: Surgical Services Gynecologic Oncology
Reports to: Clinical Director
Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week
Shifts: Monday-Friday
Status: Temporary Full-Time (12-18 Month Contract)
Closing Date: July 1 2025

Position Summary

As a member of the Surgical Gynecology Oncology Program  the responsibilities of the Clinical Nurse Specialist will be working with gynecological cancer patients undergoing surgical procedures and will include: utilizing and applying best practice specialized knowledge and expertise on recent advances in nursing practice to facilitate the effective management of clinical activities the coordination of patient care across the continuum and continuity in interprofessional patient care management; performing patient care responsibilities; performing teaching/educational responsibilities; participating actively in Quality Improvement initiatives; participating in academic and research activities/projects; performing administrative responsibilities; performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned or requested.

The key responsibilities of the Clinical Nurse Specialist

  • Supports quality health outcomes and care experiences through teaching mentoring quality monitoring and program development and evaluation.
  • Initiates and participates in quality improvement and research that will expand nursing knowledge and disseminate advances in nursing care.
  • Delivering coordinating and participating in education in conjunction with the Advanced Practice Nurse Educators and other nursing leaders including professional development activities.
  • Participates in outcome evaluation of nurse-sensitive indicators

Qualifications :

  • Current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program Level II Rescuer certification
  • Masters degree in Nursing or recognized equivalent required
  • Three (3) or more years experience in surgical oncology nursing preferably with focus on gynecological oncology
  • Sound understanding and demonstrated ability to enact the Core Competencies of the CNS framework as outlined by the Canadian Nurse Association Related to clinical care system leadership advancement of nursing practice competencies and evaluation and research
  • Ability to work with psychosocial needs of individuals couples families and groups in a dynamic manner
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent problem recognition and complex problem-solving skills
  • Excellent teaching skills with the ability to teach one-on-one and/or groups
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work in a self-directed manner
  • Experience with Quality Improvement program planning an evaluation an asset
  • Commitment to collaborative practice effectively functioning within an inter-professional team
  • Ability to work effectively and autonomously within a fast paced high demand environment
  • Experience with Electronic Health Information Systems and Microsoft office Suite including Excel Visio and Adobe Pro
